                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The 58th Legislature, Regular Session, 1963, adopted
    1-2  House Concurrent Resolution 93 providing for the placement of a
    1-3  chapel in the Capitol to serve as a haven of nondenominational
    1-4  prayer and worship by state officials and employees; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Located most recently on the fourth floor of the
    1-6  Capitol, the chapel site has been reallocated to other uses as a
    1-7  result of the restoration project and the redesign of legislative
    1-8  office space; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, State government has long recognized the importance
   1-10  of religion in the lives of Texas citizens, invoking "the blessings
   1-11  of Almighty God" in the preamble to the Texas Constitution and
   1-12  reserving time each day in the legislature for opening prayers by
   1-13  the house and senate chaplains; now, therefore, be it
   1-14        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-15  hereby direct the State Preservation Board to restore the fourth
   1-16  floor Capitol chapel in order that members and state employees may
   1-17  again have the benefits of an appropriate sanctuary to engage in
   1-18  religious worship; and, be it further
   1-19        RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official
   1-20  copy of this resolution to the executive director of the State
   1-21  Preservation Board.
