H.C.R. No. 180 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is proud to 1-2 honor Lieutenant General Everett Seldon Simpson for his 1-3 distinguished service to this state and nation as a member of the 1-4 United States armed forces; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native Texan, this inspirational individual joined 1-6 the Texas National Guard in 1933, having already attained his 1-7 bachelor's and law degrees, and was commissioned a second 1-8 lieutenant in the renowned 36th Infantry Division; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He demonstrated unflinching bravery in numerous 1-10 combat assignments in the European Theater during World War II, 1-11 which included perilous landing operations at Salerno, Italy, and 1-12 in Southern France; and 1-13 WHEREAS, For his many valorous actions as a combat soldier, 1-14 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Legion 1-15 of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, 1-16 European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with six Stars and 1-17 two Arrowheads, and the Croix de Guerre with Palm; and 1-18 WHEREAS, After the end of World War II, Lieutenant General 1-19 Simpson was awarded positions of increasingly higher rank in the 1-20 Texas National Guard and he demonstrated unrivalled leadership, 1-21 guidance, and professionalism as Commanding General of the 36th 1-22 Infantry Division; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Throughout his storied career, Lieutenant General 1-24 Simpson has exemplified the qualities of courage, duty, and honor 2-1 that reflect the highest aspirations of those who take up arms in 2-2 service to their country; as citizens throughout the land 2-3 commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, it is 2-4 an opportune time to commend this distinguished officer for his 2-5 many notable achievements; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-7 hereby honor and pay tribute to Lieutenant General Everett Seldon 2-8 Simpson for his meritorious military service in behalf of his 2-9 countrymen; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Lieutenant General Simpson as an expression of high 2-12 regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
