                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Dr. Leslie Kilby Green will retire from his position
    1-2  as pastor of Central Christian Church in Texarkana on August 31,
    1-3  1995, drawing to a close a distinguished career in the ministry
    1-4  that has spanned 42 years; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Christian University with a
    1-6  bachelor's degree in religion and sociology, this esteemed pastor
    1-7  furthered his education by earning master of divinity, master of
    1-8  theology, and doctor of ministry degrees from that institution; he
    1-9  later completed a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies at
   1-10  East Texas State University in Texarkana; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Dr. Green was ordained into the ministry on May 24,
   1-12  1953, and he served at numerous churches throughout Texas and in
   1-13  Sydney, Australia, before accepting the call to Central Christian
   1-14  Church in 1983; a licensed marriage and family therapist as well as
   1-15  a minister, he has reached out to others as a counselor at the
   1-16  Diagnostic Learning Clinic in Texarkana and as an instructor at
   1-17  Texas Christian University, Tarleton State University, and East
   1-18  Texas State University; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, In addition, this tireless individual has worked for
   1-20  the betterment of his community as a board member for the Texarkana
   1-21  Chamber of Commerce and the local chapters of United Way and
   1-22  Habitat for Humanity; he also has served as president of both the
   1-23  Erath County Mental Health Association and the Texarkana Public
   1-24  Library Commission, and he has chaired the community's Emergency
    2-1  Food and Shelter Committee since 1986; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Highly regarded for his dedication and compassion,
    2-3  Dr. Green has twice received the Dr. Thomas J. Willbanks Award for
    2-4  Excellence in Ministry, and he was honored with the 1993 Wilbur
    2-5  Award for his outstanding work in human relations; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Throughout his many endeavors, Dr. Green has enjoyed
    2-7  the love and support of his wife of many years, Pauline Mae McCoy
    2-8  Green, and their children, Rodney Kilby Green, Steven Keith Green,
    2-9  David Leslie Green, and Kathy Lynn Green; in recent years, their
   2-10  family has been blessed by the addition of two grandchildren,
   2-11  Harrison David Green and Charles Marshall Green; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, In serving his church, his family, and his
   2-13  community, Dr. Leslie Kilby Green has exemplified the highest
   2-14  ideals of Christian faith and charity, and his exceptional efforts
   2-15  over the course of the past four decades are indeed worthy of
   2-16  highest praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-17        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-18  hereby honor Dr. Leslie Kilby Green on the occasion of his
   2-19  retirement and extend to him warmest best wishes for a happy and
   2-20  fulfilling retirement; and, be it further
   2-21        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-22  prepared for Dr. Green as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-23  Legislature.
