No. 205 74R12851 BNL-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, During the month of September each year, the people 1-2 of Lee County celebrate the Wendish and German heritage of their 1-3 area with many festive celebrations and events, and one of the most 1-4 popular of these events is the State Noodle Cook-Off; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Noodles are an important staple in European cuisine, 1-6 and the many different ways of preparing and garnishing this 1-7 versatile ingredient are highlighted at this annual event, which is 1-8 held at one of the Lee County celebrations each year; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Visitors may partake of a variety of delectable 1-10 noodle dishes while sampling authentic German and Wendish music, 1-11 dance, folklore, and culture; the various celebrations incorporate 1-12 food, fun, and games for the entire family and provide a memorable 1-13 experience for all who attend; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Wendish culture descends from the Slavic inhabitants 1-15 of eastern Germany; it became part of the Lone Star cultural fabric 1-16 when large numbers of German pioneers settled in Central Texas in 1-17 the mid-1800s, founding cities such as Fredericksburg and New 1-18 Braunfels; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Many immigrant groups have contributed their 1-20 traditions, customs, and culinary treats to the ever-expanding 1-21 Texas culture, and this diversity has given us a rich and colorful 1-22 heritage that few states can match; the celebration and 1-23 preservation of the many participating cultures of the Lone Star 1-24 State serve to bring all Texans together in the spirit of fun and 2-1 fellowship, and such efforts are indeed deserving of highest praise 2-2 and recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-4 hereby designate the month of September as State Noodle Cook-Off 2-5 Month in Lee County and extend warmest best wishes to the people of 2-6 that county for a festive and enjoyable event; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the citizens of Lee County as an expression of high 2-9 regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
