                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, State law (Section 4.10, Article 601b, Vernon's
    1-2  Texas Civil Statutes) specifies those persons eligible for burial
    1-3  in the State Cemetery and authorizes the legislature to grant
    1-4  eligibility to other persons through adoption of a concurrent
    1-5  resolution; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Davis Grant, former general counsel for the State
    1-7  Bar of Texas and a former assistant attorney general to John Ben
    1-8  Shepperd, desires to be buried in the State Cemetery, and his
    1-9  request merits approval based on his many years of distinguished
   1-10  public service;  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Highly regarded throughout the legal profession for
   1-12  his integrity and fairness, Mr. Grant served both the public and
   1-13  his profession with honor and distinction for many years; his
   1-14  abiding respect for the law has been evident to all who are
   1-15  privileged to know him, and his diligent efforts to promote the
   1-16  highest ethical standards for the legal profession have earned him
   1-17  the admiration and appreciation of his colleagues; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, During his 21 years of service to the State Bar of
   1-19  Texas, this esteemed jurist also demonstrated a profound interest
   1-20  in the legacy and history of Texas, and specifically in the Texas
   1-21  judicial system; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Davis Grant is a true Texas patriot, and his
   1-23  numerous contributions to this state and to the Texas legal system
   1-24  are indeed deserving of special honor and recognition; now,
    2-1  therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-3  hereby authorize the burial of Davis Grant in the State Cemetery,
    2-4  provided proper application for assignment of burial space is made
    2-5  to the General Services Commission as required by law.
