No. 209 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 24, 1995; 1-3 May 24, 1995, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Administration; May 25, 1995, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 7, Nays 0; May 25, 1995, sent to printer.) 1-6 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, The State of Texas has a proud and distinctive 1-8 heritage in the field of aviation that, throughout its storied 1-9 history, has been rich in innovation, deed, and accomplishment; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Since its founding, the Lone Star Flight Museum of 1-11 Galveston, an 85,000-square-foot facility housing one of the finest 1-12 collections of restored aircraft in the nation, has been dedicated 1-13 to the principle of preserving this legacy of aviation history for 1-14 the public; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The museum's magnificent collection of aircraft, 1-16 many of which are exhibited at air shows, includes vintage 1-17 fighters, bombers, liaison trainers, and executive planes; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In addition to its vintage aircraft, the Lone Star 1-19 Flight Museum also boasts superb displays of historic photographs, 1-20 engines, documents, educational text, illustrations of the 1-21 Galveston Army Air Field, World War II era vehicles, nose art, a 1-22 detailed scale model of the U.S.S. Hornet, and the Perkins 1-23 Collection, a significant compilation of signed prints depicting 1-24 leadership and historic milestones in aviation; and 1-25 WHEREAS, For its exceptional work in restoring, maintaining, 1-26 and making available these historic aircraft for public viewing, 1-27 the Lone Star Flight Museum has been designated a World War II 1-28 Commemorative Community by the United States Department of Defense 1-29 and was selected to participate in the Spirit of Flight, Tour '95, 1-30 program; and 1-31 WHEREAS, Those currently serving as officers of the board of 1-32 trustees of the Lone Star Flight Museum are Robert L. Waltrip, 1-33 chairman; Steve Fredrich, treasurer; Sam Rizzo, secretary; and 1-34 Ralph S. Royce, executive director; and 1-35 WHEREAS, The Lone Star Flight Museum of Galveston represents 1-36 the highest aspirations of those Texans who have labored to 1-37 preserve our state's unique and valuable aviation heritage, and 1-38 their efforts are truly worthy of special legislative recognition; 1-39 now, therefore, be it 1-40 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-41 hereby designate the Lone Star Flight Museum of Galveston the Texas 1-42 Aviation Hall of Fame; and, be it further 1-43 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 1-44 prepared for prominent display at the Lone Star Flight Museum as an 1-45 expression of high regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas. 1-46 * * * * *
