                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent death of Robert David Gordon, Jr., on May
    1-2  3, 1995, at the age of 41, has brought great sadness to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this esteemed North Texas professional;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A prominent executive with two decades of experience
    1-6  in the funeral and cemetery industry, Mr. Gordon cofounded Laurel
    1-7  Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth and Burleson with his wife, Laurie;
    1-8  at the time of his passing, he was the senior executive vice
    1-9  president and chief operating officer of the southwest division of
   1-10  Stewart Enterprises, having joined the company in 1986 when it
   1-11  acquired Laurel Land Funeral Home; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon was a recognized leader in his field who
   1-13  provided outstanding direction to the industry throughout his
   1-14  tenure as chairman of the legislative committee of the Texas
   1-15  Cemetery Association, an organization that he also had served as
   1-16  president, and as the director of the American Cemetery
   1-17  Association, in addition to numerous other statewide and national
   1-18  affiliations; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington,
   1-20  Mr. Gordon was a dynamic speaker who frequently lectured at
   1-21  professional functions and was highly regarded by his many friends
   1-22  and colleagues for his abundant talent, discipline, and dedication;
   1-23  and
    2-1        WHEREAS, In his private life, Mr. Gordon was a devoted family
    2-2  man and an accomplished pilot who shared his enthusiasm for flying
    2-3  with his fellow pilots as a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot
    2-4  Association; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Throughout his brief but fulfilling life, Robert
    2-6  David Gordon, Jr., positively influenced the many individuals whose
    2-7  lives he touched, and though gone from us now, he leaves behind a
    2-8  legacy of sterling accomplishments that will continue to serve as a
    2-9  reminder of this exceptional gentleman for many years to come; now,
   2-10  therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert David Gordon,
   2-13  Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family:  to
   2-14  his wife, Laurie Ann Roberts Gordon; to his sons, Robert David
   2-15  Gordon III and William Jeffery Gordon; to his parents, Dave and
   2-16  Faithe Gordon; to his brother, Randy Gordon; to his sister, Heather
   2-17  Curtiss; to his grandmothers, Fannie Moore and Crystal Burks; and
   2-18  to the many other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be
   2-19  it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-21  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-22  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-23  Robert David Gordon, Jr.
