                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent passing of Travis Hiester on January 22,
    1-2  1995, at the age of 59, has brought a great loss to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this highly respected Hidalgo County
    1-4  attorney; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A Mission native, Mr. Hiester demonstrated a keen
    1-6  grasp of the law throughout his productive career, both in his
    1-7  private practice as a partner with the firm of Atlas and Hall and
    1-8  during his many years of exemplary public service to the people of
    1-9  South Texas; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, This outstanding individual brought his exceptional
   1-11  abilities to bear while representing Hidalgo County in numerous
   1-12  significant matters since the 1960s; he also ably served in his
   1-13  professional capacity for several school districts and
   1-14  municipalities, including the McAllen school district; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Mr. Hiester was a life fellow of the Texas Bar
   1-16  Foundation and served with distinction as president of the Hidalgo
   1-17  County Bar Association; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Possessed of a keen appreciation of antiquities,
   1-19  Mr. Hiester labored tirelessly to help preserve the state's unique
   1-20  cultural heritage as director of the Hidalgo County Historical
   1-21  Museum from 1968 to 1982, after which time he continued to provide
   1-22  valuable insight as an advisory director; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, A man of deep and abiding religious conviction, he
   1-24  demonstrated his faith as an active member of St. Matthew's
    2-1  Episcopal Church and also was one of the founders of St. Matthew's
    2-2  Episcopal School; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Travis Hiester was a man of rare dedication and
    2-4  integrity; although his wisdom and compassion will be greatly
    2-5  missed by all who knew him, his remarkable spirit will surely live
    2-6  on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched during
    2-7  his time on earth; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby honor the memory of Travis Hiester and extend
   2-10  sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his wife, Marie
   2-11  Quick Hiester; to his daughters, Cheryl Hiester Cantu, Leigh Ann
   2-12  Hiester, Kristen Elizabeth Hiester, and Karen Frances Hiester; to
   2-13  his mother, Mrs. Miriam Hiester; to his sister, Mary Beth Mitchell;
   2-14  to his three grandchildren; and to the many other friends and
   2-15  relatives of this distinguished gentleman; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-17  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
   2-18  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Travis
   2-19  Hiester.
