                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Milam County, rich in both historic tradition and
    1-2  the bounties of nature, has been blessed with an exquisite food
    1-3  source available to all, the wild dewberry; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Located in the fertile blacklands of southeast Texas
    1-5  and nourished by the waters of the Brazos, Little, and San Gabriel
    1-6  rivers, Milam County produces an abundance of crops, including
    1-7  sorghum, cotton, wheat, hay, corn, and soybeans; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Although these crops contribute greatly to the
    1-9  area's agribusiness economy, their economic importance is rivaled
   1-10  by the popular appeal of the indigenous dewberry, a naturally
   1-11  occurring, distinctive plant that can be found throughout the
   1-12  region; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The decumbent bramble, genus Rubus, or the wild
   1-14  dewberry, is ideally suited to and thrives dramatically in the soil
   1-15  and climate of Milam County, and the plants dot the county's
   1-16  roadsides and paths with their beautiful crimson and deep purple
   1-17  berries; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A few moments spent picking the ripened berries will
   1-19  be rewarded with a unique treat for the palate, as the fruit of the
   1-20  wild dewberry plant is distinctively sweet and refreshing; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The wild profusion of this flavorful delicacy
   1-22  throughout Milam County is indicative of the abundance of nature
   1-23  all Texans enjoy and is deserving of special legislative
   1-24  recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-2  Legislature hereby designate Milam County as the wild dewberry
    2-3  capital of the State of Texas.
