H.R. No. 17 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Vernon Regional Junior College men's rodeo team 1-2 has achieved the pinnacle of success in 1994, claiming the National 1-3 Intercollegiate Rodeo Association team championship at this year's 1-4 National College Finals Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This demanding sport requires both exceptional 1-6 athletic ability and a perfect union of effort between the rider 1-7 and his mount to compete successfully at the highest level; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Vernon Regional Junior College team has enjoyed 1-9 a high level of success in national competition with team members 1-10 capturing individual championships in both 1992 and 1993 before 1-11 winning the team title at this year's event; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Having played an instrumental role contributing to 1-13 the team's well-deserved championship, member Shane Hatch's horse 1-14 "Jotta Jet" was designated as Horse of the Year by the American 1-15 Quarter Horse Association; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Superior ability, outstanding determination, and 1-17 tremendous pride were the hallmark of every team member, including 1-18 Shane Hatch, Mark Eakin, Pete Hawkins, John Griffin, Doug Fennell, 1-19 and Kirby Barry; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Coach John Mahoney helped to bring the team's dream 1-21 of a national championship to fruition with a combination of 1-22 inspiration, firm leadership, and an absolute faith in the ability 1-23 of his charges to corral the coveted crown; and 1-24 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men has been a 2-1 tremendous source of pride for the students and faculty at Vernon 2-2 Regional Junior College and the team's many supporters in the 2-3 community, and their exceptional accomplishments have rightfully 2-4 earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate the Vernon Regional Junior College 2-7 men's rodeo team and their coach on attaining the 1994 National 2-8 Intercollegiate Rodeo Association championship and extend to them 2-9 best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-11 for the coach and team members and that a copy be prepared for 2-12 prominent display at Vernon Regional Junior College as an 2-13 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
