H.R. No. 28 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On January 30, 1995, the Texas House of 1-2 Representatives will join the proud residents of Orange County in 1-3 paying tribute to one of our state's richest centers for industry 1-4 and agribusiness; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Created from Jefferson County on January 5, 1852, 1-6 Orange County was named by George A. Patillo in honor of the 1-7 flourishing orange groves that lined the banks of the neighboring 1-8 Sabine and Neches rivers; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The county seat of Orange contains many buildings of 1-10 cultural and historical significance to the State of Texas, 1-11 including the Heritage House Museum, the Stark Museum of Art, and 1-12 the Lutcher Theatre for the Performing Arts; the city is also home 1-13 to the W. H. Stark House, a magnificent Victorian mansion that has 1-14 been preserved for future generations by beneficent members of the 1-15 Orange County community; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Blessed with coastal marshes, prairie land, and lush 1-17 pine forests, Orange County is renowned for its natural beauty as 1-18 well as its abundant recreational opportunities and has won 1-19 international acclaim as an exceptional area for hunting, 1-20 bird-watching, and freshwater and saltwater fishing; and 1-21 WHEREAS, This charming East Texas county enjoys a diverse and 1-22 thriving economy based on its wealth of natural resources; during 1-23 the 1800s the region became a center for lumber production and 1-24 shipbuilding, and in more recent years it has been a steady source 2-1 of oil and natural gas; and 2-2 WHEREAS, With its temperate climate and long growing season, 2-3 Orange County is a significant producer of nursery plants, forestry 2-4 products, citrus fruits, crawfish, cattle, and dairy products; 2-5 industrial development also has brought prosperity to area 2-6 residents, many of whom work in the fields of shipping, 2-7 shipbuilding, manufacturing, and petrochemical processing; and 2-8 WHEREAS, For more than a century, the citizens of Orange 2-9 County have played an important role in Texas' economic and 2-10 cultural history, and their many exceptional contributions to the 2-11 Lone Star State are indeed worthy of special legislative 2-12 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby recognize January 30, 1995, as Orange County Day 2-15 at the Capitol and join with the residents of Orange County in 2-16 paying tribute to one of Texas' finest counties; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for Orange County as a commemoration of this grand 2-19 occasion and as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-20 Representatives.
