R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On March 31, 1995, Don C. King will retire from his
1-2 position as secretary-general manager of the Texas and Southwestern
1-3 Cattle Raisers Association, bringing to a close a distinguished
1-4 career with the organization that has spanned 33 years; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Born to a pioneer ranching family in Jack County,
1-6 Mr. King has lived up to his proud family heritage by becoming a
1-7 leader in the state's cattle industry; and
1-8 WHEREAS, He was graduated from Texas Tech University with a
1-9 degree in agriculture and worked with his father on the family's
1-10 cattle ranch near Jermyn before beginning his employment with the
1-11 association as a field inspector in 1962; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Widely respected for his hard work, dedication, and
1-13 professionalism, he was promoted to special assistant in 1965 and
1-14 became responsible for special law enforcement and brand inspection
1-15 administrative duties; a recognized leader in his field, he has
1-16 been commissioned as a special Texas Ranger by the Department of
1-17 Public Safety since 1962 and has served as chief cattle ranger for
1-18 the State of Oklahoma; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. King was named secretary-general manager of the
1-20 association in 1966, and in the course of 28 years of devoted
1-21 service in that post, he has provided wise and thoughtful counsel
1-22 to 17 of the association's presidents; and
1-23 WHEREAS, He further contributed his time and talent to the
1-24 organization as manager of various activities, including insurance
2-1 services and brand inspection, and he supervised publication of
2-2 several highly acclaimed periodicals, including The Cattleman
2-3 magazine; he also has served with distinction as treasurer of both
2-4 the association's political action committee and the Texas and
2-5 Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation; and
2-6 WHEREAS, In recognition of the outstanding contributions he
2-7 has made to the cattle industry, Mr. King has been awarded numerous
2-8 accolades, including Texas Tech University's Gerald W. Thomas
2-9 Award as Outstanding Agriculturalist, the Texas Sheriffs
2-10 Association's President's Award, and the International Livestock
2-11 Publications Council's Headliner of the Year Award; in addition,
2-12 this remarkable individual was honored by the Texas County
2-13 Agricultural Agents Association as its Man of the Year in Texas
2-14 Agriculture; and
2-15 WHEREAS, Throughout his many accomplishments he has enjoyed
2-16 the love and support of his devoted wife, Billie Coley King, and
2-17 the couple's two fine children, Sherry Polk and Dr. Carter King;
2-18 and
2-19 WHEREAS, Mr. King is a man of great vision whose exceptional
2-20 foresight, honesty, and integrity have greatly benefitted the
2-21 agricultural industry in Texas, and it is indeed appropriate that
2-22 he receive special legislative recognition on the occasion of his
2-23 retirement; now, therefore, be it
2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th
2-25 Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Don C. King on his exemplary
2-26 service to the cattle industry in Texas and extend sincere best
2-27 wishes to him for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it
3-1 further
3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-3 prepared for Mr. King as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3-4 House of Representatives.
