R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of James E. Ingram, of San Antonio, on
1-2 January 5, 1995, at the age of 53, has brought a great loss to the
1-3 many friends and relatives of this distinguished Texan; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Ingram was born November 3, 1941, in Odessa and
1-5 was graduated from Odessa High School before entering Baylor
1-6 University; and
1-7 WHEREAS, An outstanding college student, he also achieved
1-8 acclaim on the gridiron, where he was named All-Southwest
1-9 Conference end and earned honorable mention on the All-American
1-10 team; his remarkable performance for the Baylor Bears in the 1963
1-11 Bluebonnet Bowl set two Baylor bowl records for receiving, one of
1-12 which still stands, and earned him the distinction of Most
1-13 Outstanding Lineman in that game; and
1-14 WHEREAS, He went on to be drafted by the Houston Oilers, and
1-15 after retiring from the playing field, he contributed his vast
1-16 knowledge of the sport as an assistant coach for his alma mater
1-17 while at the same time pursuing his law degree; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Ingram was well known throughout his community
1-19 for his noteworthy legal career, which included a position as a
1-20 lecturer at St. Mary's University Law School and a successful
1-21 practice as a corporate attorney; in the course of his 24-year
1-22 career, he worked as an associate or partner with several
1-23 prestigious firms and most recently served as a partner with Butler
1-24 & Binion; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Well-respected by colleagues throughout his chosen
2-2 profession, he also made substantial contributions to his field
2-3 through his service to numerous professional organizations,
2-4 offering invaluable insight as director of the San Antonio Bar
2-5 Association, as a member of the San Antonio, Federal, and Texas bar
2-6 associations, and as a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation; and
2-7 WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Ingram
2-8 maintained close ties to his community and generously gave of his
2-9 time, talents, and energies to the benefit of several worthy
2-10 organizations, including Bexar County's University Hospital
2-11 District, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Kelly Field
2-12 National Bank, Excalibur Life Insurance Company, the Baptist
2-13 Children's Home, and the Jewish National Fund's National Dinners
2-14 Advisory Board; and
2-15 WHEREAS, Guided throughout life's endeavors by an abiding
2-16 religious faith, Mr. Ingram was an ordained Baptist minister who
2-17 pastored at congregations in the Fort Worth metropolitan area
2-18 before going on to faithfully serve the members of the San Antonio
2-19 religious community; there he served as a deacon and Sunday school
2-20 teacher at Trinity Baptist Church, and he made further lasting
2-21 contributions to his faith as an esteemed member of the National
2-22 Conference of Christians and Jews; and
2-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Ingram was a man of great vision who dedicated
2-24 much of his life to serving the needs of his community; though his
2-25 special presence will be missed by all who knew him, his spirit
2-26 will surely live on in the hearts and minds of the many people
2-27 whose lives were touched by this exceptional gentleman; now,
3-1 therefore, be it
3-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
3-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James E. Ingram and
3-4 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
3-5 beloved wife of 30 years, Kay Kallina Ingram; to his two daughters,
3-6 Julie Ingram and Shannon Ingram; to his two sons, Kal Ingram and
3-7 Cameron Ingram; to his mother and stepfather, Florence Ingram and
3-8 Roy J. Johnson; to his sister, Flo Nell Ingram; and to his many
3-9 other friends and relatives; and, be it further
3-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-11 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
3-12 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
3-13 James E. Ingram.
