R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, L. D. "Dulon" Hughes for 53 years has provided
1-2 solace and the highest level of professional service to the
1-3 citizens of Nacogdoches County as a funeral home employee; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born January 11, 1907, in Shelby County, he
1-5 relocated with his family to Martinsville, where he assisted in his
1-6 father's farming and dairy business before taking a position at a
1-7 dry goods store; and
1-8 WHEREAS, He took as his bride the former Pauline McLain, and
1-9 together they shared 59 years of mutual devotion; although deeply
1-10 saddened by his wife's passing, Mr. Hughes took comfort from their
1-11 son, Kenneth Jerry Hughes, and daughter-in-law, Nell; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Joining the staff of the Cason-Monk Funeral Home in
1-13 Nacogdoches in 1942, Mr. Hughes immediately demonstrated the high
1-14 degree of personal care toward those who had lost loved ones that
1-15 would be the hallmark of his career; and
1-16 WHEREAS, After retiring from his position with Cason-Monk
1-17 Funeral Home, where he had been an exemplary employee for
1-18 approximately 40 years, he immediately began work at the Laird
1-19 Funeral Home, and he has brought to that establishment his
1-20 extraordinary expertise and comforting demeanor; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Hughes consistently has demonstrated a high
1-22 level of concern for his fellow citizens, participating in
1-23 activities at the Senior Citizens Center and providing a welcome
1-24 smile to hospital patients during his frequent visits to area
2-1 hospitals; and
2-2 WHEREAS, A man of deep and abiding religious conviction, he
2-3 shares his faith with his wife of six years, Ruby, and they both
2-4 are active members at the Old North Baptist Church, where he also
2-5 directs song services; and
2-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Hughes's extraordinary efforts and sympathetic
2-7 warmth have eased the burden of numerous families during their
2-8 difficult periods of deep personal loss, and his many notable
2-9 accomplishments in this demanding profession are indeed worthy of
2-10 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-12 Legislature hereby commend L. D. "Dulon" Hughes on his more than
2-13 half-century of significant contributions to the betterment of his
2-14 fellow citizens in Nacogdoches; and, be it further
2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16 prepared for Mr. Hughes as an expression of high regard by the
2-17 Texas House of Representatives.
