R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Kay Lynn Johnston is retiring from her position with
1-2 The University of Texas at San Antonio, drawing to a close a career
1-3 with that fine institution that has spanned more than 17 years; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Kingsville in 1937, this exceptional
1-5 individual attended Texas A&I University, where she met and married
1-6 Alan Johnston; working as the secretary to the university's dean of
1-7 women to support her husband while he finished school, she gained
1-8 her first experience in the field that would become her life's
1-9 work; and
1-10 WHEREAS, On his graduation, Mr. Johnston became a U.S. Army
1-11 officer, a position that led to several years of travel for the
1-12 young couple; with their relocation in San Antonio at the end of
1-13 Mr. Johnston's tour of duty, Mrs. Johnston resumed her career in
1-14 education with the San Antonio Independent School District as a
1-15 secretary, where she demonstrated the highest possible level of
1-16 professionalism in her duties; and
1-17 WHEREAS, She then took a position at Trinity University as
1-18 executive assistant in the president's office and proved to be an
1-19 invaluable asset to that staff during her productive tenure there;
1-20 and
1-21 WHEREAS, Moving to The University of Texas at San Antonio in
1-22 1977, she brought her unique talents to bear as an administrative
1-23 assistant in the office of the dean of students; in 1985, she was
1-24 chosen as executive assistant to the vice president of business
2-1 affairs, where for a decade she performed a variety of demanding
2-2 tasks with consummate thoroughness and precision; and
2-3 WHEREAS, Throughout her career she has received the love and
2-4 support of her devoted husband, Alan, and the two hope to enjoy
2-5 their additional time together travelling and doting on their
2-6 grandchildren; and
2-7 WHEREAS, As Mrs. Johnston begins her well-deserved
2-8 retirement, she can indeed look back with tremendous pride and
2-9 satisfaction on her exemplary career in the field of education,
2-10 assured in the knowledge that she has made a positive difference in
2-11 the lives of those whose pleasure it has been to know and work with
2-12 her; now, therefore, be it
2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-14 Legislature hereby congratulate Kay Lynn Johnston on her
2-15 outstanding tenure with The University of Texas at San Antonio and
2-16 extend to her best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement;
2-17 and, be it further
2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19 prepared for Mrs. Johnston as an expression of high regard by the
2-20 Texas House of Representatives.
