                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Nacogdoches County is in the heart of the East Texas
    1-2  Piney Woods, where timber and other agricultural industries are the
    1-3  main strength of the economy; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Named for the Nacogdoche Indians who settled there
    1-5  centuries ago, the county features lush scenery highlighted by
    1-6  pristine lakes, well-stocked rivers, and the pastoral beauty of the
    1-7  region's verdant woods, making this area a popular destination for
    1-8  tourists, hikers, campers, fishermen, hunters, and other nature
    1-9  lovers; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Yet the county's greatest asset is its people, who
   1-11  are industrious, hardworking, honest, and straightforward, although
   1-12  occasionally displaying a trademark East Texas stubbornness, and
   1-13  who represent an excellent mix of ethnic diversity; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Residents of this fine county have ample reason to
   1-15  be proud of their medical facilities and the health care services
   1-16  available, which have made this area a medical treatment center for
   1-17  residents throughout the Deep East Texas area; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, This booming community is home to several major
   1-19  industries and many small businesses, each of which is a corporate
   1-20  good neighbor, and this vibrant business climate is the key to the
   1-21  high standard of living that East Texans enjoy; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Located along El Camino Real, a trail blazed by the
   1-23  first Spanish provincial governor in 1691, Nacogdoches County was
   1-24  the site of many historic events that have contributed to the
    2-1  unique cultural and social fabric of our great state; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, The county seat of Nacogdoches holds the proud
    2-3  distinction of being the oldest town in Texas and features such
    2-4  historic attractions as the Old Stone Fort, the Adolphus Sterne
    2-5  home, Oak Grove Cemetery, and the Old North Church; the bustling
    2-6  downtown area still uses some of its original brick streets, but
    2-7  the city also features such modern facilities as the Fredonia
    2-8  Convention Center and the Nacogdoches County Exposition Center; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, In addition, the city of Nacogdoches is the site of
   2-10  Stephen F.  Austin State University, one of the state's finest
   2-11  institutions of higher learning; the university brings an influx of
   2-12  young people into the city each year that provides a welcome
   2-13  economic boon and also infuses the town with a youthful vitality
   2-14  and spirit; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, This prosperous community has benefited tremendously
   2-16  from the guidance and dedication of the Nacogdoches Chamber of
   2-17  Commerce, and special recognition should be extended to the current
   2-18  members of the chamber's Leadership Nacogdoches program:  Cheryl
   2-19  Adamson, Gary Ashcraft, Barbara Aydlett, David Cozadd, Jeff Cupit,
   2-20  Cindy Davidson, Robert Deen, Kristina Dempsey, Kay Evans, Claudia
   2-21  Fields, Renee Gleitsmann, Patti Goodrum, Jerry Graham, Cheryl
   2-22  Hamilton, Laurie Hurst, Kevin Kelley, Kirk Nobles, Chris Oglesbee,
   2-23  Mark Patton, Teresa Hebert Patton, John Phillips, Janis Ploch,
   2-24  Karen Rushton, Frank Still, and Linda Warner; now, therefore, be it
   2-25        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-26  Legislature hereby honor the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce and
   2-27  all the fine residents of the county for their outstanding
    3-1  contributions to the State of Texas; and, be it further
    3-2        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-3  prepared for the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce and the members of
    3-4  Leadership Nacogdoches as an expression of high regard by the Texas
    3-5  House of Representatives.
