R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 Babe Aycock of Mart for the many outstanding contributions she has
1-3 made to the field of emergency medicine and congratulate her on her
1-4 recent induction into the Texas Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
1-5 Hall of Fame; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Ms. Aycock joins Charles E. King, L. O. Martin,
1-7 Jack Peacock, Lin Vickers, and Carl B. Young, Jr., in an elite
1-8 group of emergency medical specialists honored by the Texas
1-9 Department of Health, and she is the first volunteer, the first
1-10 mayor, and the first 79-year-old to be inducted into this
1-11 prestigious organization; and
1-12 WHEREAS, She began her distinguished career in emergency
1-13 medicine in 1983 when, as mayor of Mart, she organized efforts that
1-14 enabled the city to assume responsibility for ambulance service and
1-15 spearheaded a fund-raising drive to purchase the city's ambulance;
1-16 she also was one of the town's first volunteers to earn
1-17 certification as an emergency care attendant, and by 1988 she was a
1-18 licensed paramedic; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Ms. Aycock's professionalism, expertise, and
1-20 dedication have undoubtedly helped the Mart EMS to become a leader
1-21 in its field; her unit has been recognized as the nation's leading
1-22 basic life support service by the National Association of Emergency
1-23 Medical Technicians and as the state's outstanding volunteer EMS by
1-24 the Texas Department of Health; and
2-1 WHEREAS, An expert in high-angle and cave rescues, she also
2-2 works with the "Shots Across Texas" children's immunization program
2-3 and has recently applied her wealth of expertise to trauma system
2-4 development in the Waco community; she also works to ensure that
2-5 EMS groups participate in the Heart of Texas Regional Advisory
2-6 Council, and she organized the council's annual recognition
2-7 ceremony for this year; and
2-8 WHEREAS, Ms. Aycock is a woman of boundless energies and
2-9 continues to work a daily shift with the Mart EMS, where her
2-10 unsurpassed dedication and commitment serve as a source of
2-11 inspiration to all who know her; now, therefore, be it
2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-13 Legislature hereby commend Babe Aycock for her outstanding service
2-14 as an emergency medical technician and congratulate her on her
2-15 recent induction into the Texas EMS Hall of Fame; and, be it
2-16 further
2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-18 prepared for Ms. Aycock as an expression of high regard by the
2-19 Texas House of Representatives.
