By De La Garza H.R. No. 94 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Travis Hiester on January 22, 1-2 1995, at the age of 59, has brought a great loss to the many 1-3 friends and relatives of this highly respected Hidalgo County 1-4 attorney; and 1-5 WHEREAS, An Edinburg resident, Mr. Hiester demonstrated a 1-6 keen grasp of the law throughout his productive career, both in his 1-7 private practice as a partner with the McAllen law firm of Atlas 1-8 and Hall and during his many years of exemplary public service to 1-9 the people of Hidalgo County and South Texas; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This outstanding individual brought his exceptional 1-11 abilities to bear while representing Hidalgo County as County 1-12 Attorney and in numerous significant matters since the 1960's; he 1-13 also ably served in his professional capacity for several school 1-14 districts and municipalities, including the McAllen school 1-15 district; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mr. Hiester was a life fellow of the Texas Bar 1-17 Foundation and served with distinction as president of the Hidalgo 1-18 County Bar Association; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Possessed of a keen appreciation of antiquities, 1-20 Mr. Hiester labored tirelessly to help preserve the state's unique 1-21 cultural heritage as director of the Hidalgo County Historical 1-22 Museum from 1968 to 1982, after which time he continued to provide 1-23 valuable insight as an advisory director; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A man of deep and abiding religious conviction, he 2-2 demonstrated his faith as an active member of St. Matthew's 2-3 Episcopal Church of Edinburg and also was one of the founders of 2-4 St. Matthew's Episcopal School; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Travis Hiester was a man of rare dedication and 2-6 integrity; although his wisdom and compassion will be greatly 2-7 missed by all who knew him, his remarkable spirit will surely live 2-8 on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched during 2-9 his time on earth; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Travis Hiester and extend 2-12 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Marie 2-13 Quick Hiester; to his daughters, Cheryl Hiester Cantu, Leigh Ann 2-14 Hiester, Kristen Elizabeth Hiester, and Karen Frances Hiester; to 2-15 his mother Mrs. Miriam Hiester; to his sister, Mary Beth Mitchell; 2-16 to his three grandchildren; and to the many other friends and 2-17 relatives of this distinguished gentleman; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-19 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-20 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Travis 2-21 Hiester.
