                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, For the past four decades, the members of the
    1-2  Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club have provided their community with
    1-3  outstanding leadership and service, and their efforts have greatly
    1-4  contributed to the betterment of this state; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Organized on February 1, 1955, this commendable
    1-6  organization was cosponsored by several regional Kiwanis Clubs and
    1-7  received initial support from Herbert Wilson, who is known
    1-8  throughout Nacogdoches for his long association with the Fredonia
    1-9  Inn; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Kiwanis Clubs are dedicated to establishing higher
   1-11  social, professional, and business standards in their communities
   1-12  by emphasizing human and spiritual values over material values;
   1-13  they encourage others to live by the Golden Rule, and they
   1-14  demonstrate their commitment to this precept through their own
   1-15  altruistic service; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The support and nurturing of children is a primary
   1-17  goal of Kiwanis Clubs, as evidenced by their Young Children:
   1-18  Priority One program; independently and in conjunction with other
   1-19  service organizations, the clubs address the needs of children and
   1-20  seek to eliminate iodine deficiency disorders worldwide, a noble
   1-21  task that can be accomplished by establishing salt iodination
   1-22  plants in stricken areas; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Members of the Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club have
   1-24  provided unflagging support to local young people by sponsoring
    2-1  scholarships, a county 4-H Club, Little League teams, and other
    2-2  community youth projects, including Project Graduation and drug
    2-3  education programs; yet they also recognize the importance of fun
    2-4  and recreation, and to that end they have constructed picnic
    2-5  pavilions, playgrounds, and other improvements in local parks; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, This inspiring record of service is passed on to
    2-7  future generations through the Kiwanis Club's affiliated youth
    2-8  organizations, the Nacogdoches Key Club for high school students
    2-9  and the Circle K Club for students of Stephen F. Austin State
   2-10  University; both of these organizations have been among the most
   2-11  successful in the Southwest and have received numerous awards for
   2-12  their spirited and enthusiastic efforts; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, the Kiwanis Club has
   2-14  benefited from the wise guidance and dedication of its leaders,
   2-15  including past presidents  R. J. Sheperd, Alton King, Iven Hensley,
   2-16  W. Ralph Bailey, L. D. Pate, Jack H. Clifton, Clifton Tannery,
   2-17  James Redfield, Lenville Martin, Robert S. Maxwell, Don Bryce, John
   2-18  T. Lewis, David G. Foster, George S. Thompson, Joe A. Sweat,
   2-19  F. Doyle Alexander, Robert D. Baker, Gary C. Godfrey, Calvin
   2-20  P. Barton, Jerry M. Self, Randall B. Cox, Jerry N. Lackey,
   2-21  R. G. Willis, Lewis T. Riecks, Barham Fulmer, Kenneth I. Durr,
   2-22  Sonny Butts, Ray Eastman, C. G. Maclin, Andy Ferguson, Robert
   2-23  Lockhart, G. W. Neal, Herschel Reeves, Bill Griffen, Herschel
   2-24  Fulmer, Jim Dennis, Anita Standridge, and Troy Ray, and past
   2-25  lieutenant governors John T. Lewis, George Thompson, L. D. Pate,
   2-26  Ken Durr, and Herschel Fulmer; and
   2-27        WHEREAS, Under the direction of current President William
    3-1  Kitchens, the Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club stands poised to offer
    3-2  another 40 years of civic leadership and community service, and
    3-3  their heartfelt efforts will surely be welcomed by all the citizens
    3-4  of this fine East Texas community; now, therefore, be it
    3-5        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    3-6  Legislature hereby commend the members of the Nacogdoches Kiwanis
    3-7  Club on the occasion of the club's 40th anniversary and extend to
    3-8  them warmest best wishes for many more years of continued success;
    3-9  and, be it further
   3-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   3-11  prepared for the Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club as an expression of high
   3-12  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
