                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Valley View Baptist Church is observing a
    1-2  significant milestone in its rich history this year as it
    1-3  commemorates the 100th anniversary of its founding; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, In 1895, the Tri-County Southern Baptist Association
    1-5  saw the need for a church to be located in Montague County between
    1-6  the communities of Nocona and Spanish Fort; as a result, plans for
    1-7  what would then be known as the Red River Baptist Church were
    1-8  formed under a brush arbor at a revival meeting held at Red River
    1-9  Station; and
   1-10        WHEREAS,  Services were held for a time in local
   1-11  schoolhouses, with the Reverend J. D. Powers serving as the
   1-12  church's first pastor of record; in 1921, the Reverend J. A.
   1-13  Russell was called as pastor, and, shortly thereafter, an acre of
   1-14  land was donated by Mr. and Mrs. J. A. York for the purpose of
   1-15  building a church; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The church was built and a parsonage was added in
   1-17  1922, but fire destroyed the parsonage and the church's original
   1-18  records in 1928; rallying in the face of adversity, the
   1-19  congregation rebuilt the parsonage that same year and also voted to
   1-20  change the name of the church to Valley View Baptist Church; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Since its founding, the church has been blessed by
   1-22  the spiritual guidance and direction of a host of outstanding
   1-23  clergymen who have attracted many new members and involved the
   1-24  congregation in many important ministries; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Music has always served as an uplifting aspect of
    2-2  the congregation's fellowship as well, and the church has been
    2-3  fortunate to have had among its membership many gifted vocalists
    2-4  and musicians through the years, including the Hill Family Singers
    2-5  and a number of talented choirs; in 1989, an organ was purchased
    2-6  that has served to further enhance the enjoyment already associated
    2-7  with the congregation's regular services; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, From humble beginnings, Valley View Baptist Church
    2-9  stands today as a tribute to the dedication and hard work of its
   2-10  members, past and present, who have always devoted their time,
   2-11  energy, and financial resources to ensure its continued existence
   2-12  as a house of God; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby congratulate Valley View Baptist Church on the
   2-15  momentous occasion of its 100th anniversary and commend Pastor Jeff
   2-16  Cradford and his congregation on the many significant contributions
   2-17  they have made to the betterment of their community; and, be it
   2-18  further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-20  prepared for Valley View Baptist Church as an expression of high
   2-21  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
