No. 112 74R4964 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Sealy High School Tigers have attained the 1-2 pinnacle of success in their quest for excellence, completing the 1-3 1994 season with a perfect record of 16 wins and no defeats and 1-4 claiming the 1994 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 3A 1-5 football championship; and 1-6 WHEREAS, After battling their way through the regular season 1-7 and four playoff contests, the Tigers took the field in the state 1-8 semifinal matchup against Port Isabel High School and, although 1-9 trailing early, came from behind to overwhelm their opponent 34-13, 1-10 giving head coach T. J. Mills his 100th career victory; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Sealy met Atlanta High School at Houston's fabled 1-12 Astrodome with the 3A title at stake and demonstrated the character 1-13 and tenacity that were the team's hallmarks throughout the season, 1-14 putting on a textbook display of gridiron excellence en route to a 1-15 36-15 win to claim the coveted football crown; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Tiger running back Fred Smith, named Texas High 1-17 School Class 3A Player of the Year by the HSE television network 1-18 and Dave Campbell's Football Magazine, lived up to his 1-19 well-deserved accolades by rushing for a Texas high school 1-20 championship game record 313 yards, eclipsing the mark set by 1-21 legendary running back and former Sealy star Eric Dickerson; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The season's outstanding accomplishments were the 1-23 result of total team effort from members Jeff Gaston, Anthony 1-24 Davila, Michael McDonald, Paul Martinez, Taurus Downey, Brad Boehm, 2-1 Mario Tarver, Brad Burttschell, Allen Kalkomey, Jarrod Novicke, 2-2 Stephen Kaye, Jaron Dabney, Wayne Hester, Lamont Bonner, Chris 2-3 Tate, John Sodolak, Steven Newsome, Fred Smith, Gary Hill, Forrest 2-4 Wagner, Keaton Cloud, Chase Schavrda, Ken Harris, Stephen Stuessel, 2-5 Ruperto Sauceda, Nathan Pless, Sammy Miller, James Sims, Jake 2-6 Dowell, Ryan Ekarius, Richard Williams, Eric Zapalac, Nick 2-7 Callihan, Tommy Zapalac, Mike Kovar, James Ritter, Chris Noble, 2-8 Eliseo Molina, John Buchala, Bill Krampitz, Ernesto Lopez, Ryan 2-9 Eckelberg, Jimmie Schroeder, Heath Novosad, Gilbert Bassett, Dante 2-10 Curry, Chris Lincecum, Jeremy Crowder, Marty Bradshaw, Konrad 2-11 Novicke, and Shane Stroud; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Outstanding leadership and guidance were supplied by 2-13 head coach T. J. Mills, whose unwavering belief in his players' 2-14 abilities helped them to realize their championship dream; and 2-15 WHEREAS, This exceptional group of young men, along with 2-16 their coaches and staff, have been a tremendous source of pride to 2-17 the students and faculty at Sealy High School and their many 2-18 supporters in the community, and their exceptional achievements 2-19 have rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now, 2-20 therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-22 Legislature hereby congratulate the Sealy High School Tigers and 2-23 their coaching staff on their undefeated season and 1994 UIL Class 2-24 3A football championship; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-26 for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be 2-27 prepared for prominent display at Sealy High School as an 3-1 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
