                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Thorndale High School Bulldogs have attained the
    1-2  pinnacle of athletic success, completing the 1994 football season
    1-3  with a perfect 16-0 record and claiming the University
    1-4  Interscholastic League Class A state football championship; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, After taking the District 26-A title with an
    1-6  unblemished 10-0 mark during the regular season, the Bulldogs met
    1-7  Calvert High School in their first playoff matchup and cruised to a
    1-8  53-0 victory; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, With the area championship at stake, Thorndale again
   1-10  dominated its opponent, storming to a 60-6 win over Rocksprings
   1-11  High School and continuing to march through the playoffs; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Taking the field against Charlotte High School, the
   1-13  Bulldogs put on a textbook demonstration of dominance both
   1-14  offensively and defensively en route to a 55-0 shutout victory; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Rated as the top team in its class even before the
   1-16  season began, Thorndale continued to live up to its season-long
   1-17  number one state ranking in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs,
   1-18  crushing Iola High School 55-12; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Behind one of the highest-scoring offenses in Texas
   1-20  schoolboy history, the Bulldogs roared past Burkeville High School
   1-21  43-13 to secure a spot in the championship game; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Determined to reclaim the state championship
   1-23  captured by the 1989 Thorndale squad, the Bulldogs overcame a
   1-24  spirited performance by previously undefeated Crawford High School,
    2-1  winning in convincing fashion 36-13 to attain the coveted crown;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The season's superb accomplishments were a result of
    2-4  selfless dedication to the team concept by members Eric Melde, Joel
    2-5  Simank, Sam West, Eric Hinistroza, Kevin Kiesling, Michael Calvin,
    2-6  Anthony Dominguez, Adam Fisher, Kelly Cowan, John Broxson, Kyle
    2-7  Wuensche, Corey Moss, Clay Bishop, Clint Adams, Clint Leschber,
    2-8  Trent Taylor, Rahja Roman, Twone Simmons, Beau Cargill, Cody Cuba,
    2-9  Kevin Widner, Trey Felton, Terry Taylor, Kirby Menzel, Tim Patin,
   2-10  Brook Niemtschk, Jimmy Adams, Jeremy Merz, Keith Caffey, Jason
   2-11  Kovar, Matt Paris, Chad Schwarz, Tim Mitchell, Craig Waiser, Jamie
   2-12  Beran, Michael Alexander, Nikolas Merz, and Patrick Cook; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Inspiration and tireless leadership were the
   2-14  hallmarks of head coach Don Cowan, who instilled in his charges an
   2-15  unquenchable will to win; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men and their coaches
   2-17  and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the students
   2-18  and faculty at Thorndale High School and their many supporters in
   2-19  the community, and their exceptional accomplishments have
   2-20  rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now,
   2-21  therefore, be it
   2-22        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-23  Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Don Cowan and the
   2-24  Thorndale High School Bulldogs on their undefeated season and UIL
   2-25  Class A state football championship; and, be it further
   2-26        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-27  for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be
    3-1  prepared for prominent display at Thorndale High School as an
    3-2  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
