                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Fred Davenport, Jr., on December 16,
    1-2  1994, at the age of 56, has brought a great loss to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this esteemed Austin resident; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born in Rosebud, Texas, this outstanding individual
    1-5  was graduated from Rosebud High School and later in life pursued
    1-6  his higher education at the University of Houston, where he
    1-7  attained a degree in business technology in 1976; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, He began his highly productive career with Houston
    1-9  Lighting and Power Company in 1957 as a customer service
   1-10  representative and then undertook increasing levels of
   1-11  responsibility with the company in his capacity as credit manager
   1-12  of customer service and later as district manager for Fort Bend,
   1-13  bringing to those positions the high level of professionalism that
   1-14  was the hallmark of his many efforts; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Mr. Davenport was appointed as Houston Industries'
   1-16  director of state relations in 1986 and achieved outstanding
   1-17  success in that position; his encyclopedic knowledge of utility
   1-18  operations combined with exceptional interpersonal skills made him
   1-19  an ideal choice in that difficult and demanding job; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to the well-being of his fellow
   1-21  citizens, Mr. Davenport gave freely of his time and energies to
   1-22  such worthy organizations as the United Way, the Rosenberg/Richmond
   1-23  area chamber of commerce, and the Richmond Rotary Club; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, he was supported in all
    2-1  his endeavors by his wife, Caroline, and they were blessed with two
    2-2  fine children; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, In addition to the enjoyment he received from his
    2-4  family and work, Mr. Davenport also was an avid outdoorsman, taking
    2-5  great pleasure in golf, hunting, and fishing; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A man of deep and abiding religious conviction, he
    2-7  shared his faith as an active member of the Triumphant Love
    2-8  Lutheran Church, where he also served as chairman of financial
    2-9  affairs; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Fred Davenport, Jr., was a man of rare integrity and
   2-11  wisdom; although his strength and compassion will be missed by all
   2-12  who knew him, his remarkable spirit will live on in the hearts of
   2-13  the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-15  Legislature, Regular Session, 1995, hereby pay tribute to the life
   2-16  of Fred Davenport, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members
   2-17  of his family: to his wife, Caroline Davenport; to his children,
   2-18  Donna Hyde and David Davenport; to his mother, Athylene Davenport;
   2-19  to his brother, Ken Davenport; to his son-in-law, Richard Hyde; to
   2-20  his daughter-in-law, Karen Davenport; to his grandchildren, Rebecca
   2-21  and Rachel Hyde and Lauren and Lindsey Davenport; and to the many
   2-22  other friends and relatives of this beloved gentleman; and, be it
   2-23  further
   2-24        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-25  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-26  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-27  Fred Davenport, Jr.
