H.R. No. 116 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to join 1-2 the 1,200 members of the Texas Corrections Association in observing 1-3 Corrections Day at the State Capitol on February 7, 1995; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Initiated and sponsored by the association, this 1-5 event affords lawmakers, professionals in the field of criminal 1-6 justice, and interested members of the general public an excellent 1-7 opportunity to become more aware and better informed about key 1-8 issues, problems, and solutions in an area of importance to all 1-9 Texans; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In recognition of the legislature's focus on 1-11 juvenile justice issues during the current session, this year's 1-12 observance of Corrections Day will feature presentations about 1-13 successful juvenile programs and corrections initiatives being 1-14 implemented across the state to combat crime and improve public 1-15 safety; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The highlight of the day's agenda will be the 1-17 Exemplary Program Exhibit, showcasing some of the outstanding 1-18 juvenile corrections programs that have proven effective in 1-19 reducing crime and rehabilitating youthful offenders; a unique 1-20 feature of this exhibit in the Capitol rotunda will be the presence 1-21 of juvenile clients in the system as well as program staff to 1-22 discuss what works and why in these model programs; and 1-23 WHEREAS, In addition to the information presented in the 1-24 day's exhibits, the Texas Corrections Association will have on hand 2-1 detailed information about critical program components, such as 2-2 cost per day, profiles of program participants, community and 2-3 interagency support and interaction, and other vital data necessary 2-4 for a proper evaluation of these and other corrections programs; 2-5 and 2-6 WHEREAS, The information presented in these exhibits as well 2-7 as the better understanding that derives from the attention paid to 2-8 juvenile justice issues during Corrections Day at the Capitol is 2-9 essential if we are to respond successfully not only to the needs 2-10 of society but also to the needs of those who find themselves 2-11 removed from society in the criminal justice system; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Corrections Day also affords an appropriate 2-13 opportunity to honor the countless professionals who serve with 2-14 exemplary dedication in the field, in probation and parole offices 2-15 as well as in corrections facilities and programs, all of whom are 2-16 deserving of public praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby commemorate the observance of Corrections Day at 2-19 the Capitol on February 7, 1995, and commend all of the members of 2-20 the Texas Corrections Association for their contributions to the 2-21 betterment of society and their continued efforts to improve the 2-22 lives of Texans everywhere.
