H.R. No. 158 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The St. Marcus Compassion House in Tyler provides an 1-2 exceptional service to its community, fostering in young Texans a 1-3 greater sense of responsibility and belief in their ability to 1-4 achieve; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1989 by Emanuel Ward, who also serves as 1-6 executive director, the St. Marcus Compassion House provides food, 1-7 clothing, housing, medical care, and spiritual guidance to young 1-8 people in need; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Among the many innovative techniques employed at the 1-10 St. Marcus Compassion House is the Leadership 2000 Program, a 1-11 personal development program for boys and young men that promotes 1-12 discipline, responsibility, and accountability in all aspects of 1-13 life; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The St. Marcus Compassion House is staffed by a 1-15 group of devoted volunteers who give freely of their time and 1-16 energy to ensure that each person in their care receives the 1-17 encouragement, training, and direction that will allow that 1-18 individual to achieve success; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The future of Texas rests in the hands of our 1-20 state's youth, and those who seek to provide tomorrow's leaders 1-21 with the knowledge and sense of responsibility necessary to face 1-22 and overcome the many challenges that await them have created a 1-23 legacy truly worthy of special legislative recognition; now, 1-24 therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby commend the staff of the St. Marcus Compassion 2-3 House for their exceptional efforts in behalf of the youth in their 2-4 community; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for display at the St. Marcus Compassion House as an 2-7 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
