                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Tyler Woman's Forum has long played an active
    1-2  role in making the community it serves a better place in which to
    1-3  live and raise a family; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, When the Forum was founded in April 1923, it
    1-5  comprised three organizations that were literary in nature; by the
    1-6  1930s, the group's burgeoning membership had grown to encompass
    1-7  eight organizations, whose members had turned their attention to
    1-8  undertaking projects that would be of significant benefit to
    1-9  citizens throughout the greater community; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, In 1932, the Tyler Woman's Forum was instrumental in
   1-11  the construction of the Tyler Woman's Building on land that was
   1-12  donated by Judge and Mrs. Sam Lindsey; shortly thereafter, the
   1-13  group played a pivotal role in the founding of the Tyler Public
   1-14  Library; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Other achievements of lasting import were soon to
   1-16  follow, including the planting of trees around the Tyler Square and
   1-17  the establishment of the Fruit Palace, which is known today as the
   1-18  popular East Texas Fair; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, During World War II, this dedicated group also
   1-20  supported the war effort by making bandages and bridal gowns that
   1-21  were shipped to England; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The Tyler Woman's Building serves today as a visible
   1-23  reminder of the vast contributions made by the Tyler Woman's Forum
   1-24  since its founding; as a result of the organization's dedicated
    2-1  efforts, the building has developed throughout the years into a
    2-2  multipurpose meeting place for the East Texas Symphony and 14 other
    2-3  organizations and churches that gather there on a weekly basis; and
    2-4        WHEREAS,  In light of the group's remarkable achievements, it
    2-5  is fitting that the Tyler Woman's Forum be honored for its
    2-6  outstanding service; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby commend the Tyler Woman's Forum for the many
    2-9  exemplary contributions it has made to the betterment of its
   2-10  community; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for the Tyler Woman's Forum as an expression of high
   2-13  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
