No. 164 74R4146 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Tyler Area Senior Citizens Association, Inc. 1-2 (TASCA) was founded as a nonprofit corporation to provide services 1-3 and offer activities to the growing senior-citizen population of 1-4 Tyler and surrounding communities; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This extraordinary organization has embarked on an 1-6 ambitious program to construct a new senior recreation center for 1-7 use by Smith County's retired residents; TASCA members have held 1-8 garage sales and bake sales to raise funds for this wonderful new 1-9 facility, which when complete will comprise a 30,000-square-foot 1-10 complex with meeting rooms, dance halls, exercise areas, dining 1-11 rooms, and exhibition galleries; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Since its inception on December 6, 1991, TASCA has 1-13 provided its members and other area residents with a variety of 1-14 social and recreational activities, ranging from monthly dances to 1-15 the promotion of the 1995 Tyler Senior Expo; activities planned for 1-16 the new senior center include arts and crafts classes as well as 1-17 lectures, demonstrations, and drama productions; and 1-18 WHEREAS, TASCA members also make many invaluable 1-19 contributions toward the health and welfare of the Tyler community; 1-20 this fine group holds monthly meetings for its members, sponsors 1-21 health clinics, distributes health information to Smith County 1-22 residents, participates in the Meals-On-Wheels program, and 1-23 conducts student elections for the University of Texas at Tyler; 1-24 and 2-1 WHEREAS, Operated entirely by volunteers, TASCA now counts 2-2 more than 800 dedicated members among its ranks and is a leading 2-3 advocate for the senior citizens of East Texas; in addition to 2-4 providing older residents of Tyler much-needed services, this 2-5 exemplary association is dedicated to making Tyler and the 2-6 surrounding community a better place to live for all residents, 2-7 regardless of age; and 2-8 WHEREAS, In light of the many outstanding contributions that 2-9 TASCA has made to Smith County and to the State of Texas, it is 2-10 indeed fitting that this organization be given special legislative 2-11 recognition and praise; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby commend the officers and members of the Tyler 2-14 Area Senior Citizens Association, Inc. for their exceptional work 2-15 in behalf of Smith County senior residents; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for the Tyler Area Senior Citizens Association, Inc. as an 2-18 expression of highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
