                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the State of Texas
    1-2  takes pride in honoring Volunteers in Service to America on the
    1-3  grand occasion of its 30th anniversary; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Since 1965, more than 100,000 Americans have served
    1-5  in Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), which is a part of
    1-6  AmeriCorps; these volunteers have dedicated their time and energy
    1-7  to helping individuals and communities across the country that are
    1-8  in need of assistance; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, This admirable organization helps citizens in the
   1-10  areas of education, human needs, public safety, and the
   1-11  environment; particular attention is given to people of low income
   1-12  who need assistance in improving their lives; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Currently, there are more than 600 VISTA members who
   1-14  serve more than 120 communities in Texas, helping those communities
   1-15  to address their most urgent issues; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, President Lyndon Johnson's legacy, often referred to
   1-17  as the "domestic version of the Peace Corps," VISTA is well known
   1-18  for the programs it has developed to help entire neighborhoods; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The members of VISTA are exemplary individuals and
   1-20  sources of strength to our country, and their many accomplishments
   1-21  reflect their uncommon generosity, dedication, and concern for
   1-22  others; now, therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the State of
    2-1  Texas, 74th Legislature, hereby recognize Volunteers in Service to
    2-2  America for its worthy contributions to communities across America
    2-3  and commend the men and women who are unselfishly serving their
    2-4  country as part of AmeriCorps; and, be it further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for them
    2-6  as an expression of esteem from the Texas House of Representatives.
