                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Good health is the right of every Texan, and the
    1-2  mission of public health is to promote and protect the health of
    1-3  Texans through education, disease and injury prevention,
    1-4  regulation, research, and delivery of preventive health services;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) was created
    1-7  in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson when he declared a "War on
    1-8  Poverty" to "mobilize the human and financial resources of the
    1-9  nation to combat poverty in the United States"; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A working partnership between the Corporation for
   1-11  National and Community Service, the Texas Department of Health, and
   1-12  VISTA volunteers has enhanced public health services by encouraging
   1-13  families to utilize immunization services, participate in the Women
   1-14  Infant and Children (WIC) program, and obtain Early and Periodic
   1-15  Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT); and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The contributions and services of the Texas VISTA
   1-17  Health Corps in Texas need to be recognized and supported by all
   1-18  Texans; now, therefore, be it
   1-19        RESOLVED, That all VISTA volunteers and volunteers involved
   1-20  in public health services in Texas be commended for their tireless
   1-21  work and dedication to public health and its mission of protecting
   1-22  and promoting the health of our citizens; and, be it further
   1-23        RESOLVED, That this day, February 16, 1995, be recognized as
    2-1  Texas VISTA Health Corps Day in Texas.
