                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Good Health is the right of every Texan and the
    1-2  mission of public health is to promote and protect the health of
    1-3  Texas through education, disease and injury prevention, regulation,
    1-4  research, and delivery of preventive health services; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) was created
    1-6  in 1964, by President Johnson when he declared a "War on Poverty"
    1-7  to "mobilize the human and financial resources of the nation to
    1-8  combat poverty in the United States;" and
    1-9        WHEREAS, a working partnership between the Corporation for
   1-10  National and Community Service, the Texas Department of Health and
   1-11  VISTA volunteers has enhanced public health services by encouraging
   1-12  families to utilize immunization services, participate in the Women
   1-13  Infant and Children (WIC) program and to obtain Early and Periodic
   1-14  Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT); and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The contributions and services of the Texas VISTA
   1-16  Health Corps in Texas need to be recognized and supported by all
   1-17  Texans; now, therefore, be it
   1-18        RESOLVED, That all VISTAs and volunteers involved in public
   1-19  health services in Texas be commended for their tireless work and
   1-20  dedication to public health and its mission of protecting and
   1-21  promoting the health of our citizens; and, be it further
   1-22        RESOLVED, That this day February 16, 1995, be recognized as
   1-23  Texas VISTA Health Corps Day in Texas.
