No. 182 74R5809 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Pilot Club of Baytown is committed to securing 1-2 the completion of the Fred Hartman Bridge, and its dedicated 1-3 efforts in this regard have provided area citizens with an 1-4 important advocate in helping to bring this critical project to 1-5 fruition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, At the present time, the Baytown-La Porte Tunnel is 1-7 the only direct vehicular route connecting these vital Southeast 1-8 Texas communities; recognizing the tunnel's inability to handle the 1-9 heavy traffic demands of Highway 146, the state contracted for the 1-10 construction of its replacement, the Fred Hartman Bridge, in 1985; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, Though the Fred Hartman Bridge was originally 1-13 scheduled for completion in 1989, it has still not been completed, 1-14 more than five years later; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The importance of this project was further brought 1-16 home to area residents last October when the Interstate 10 bridge 1-17 to Baytown was closed due to flooding; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Deeply concerned by the lack of progress achieved on 1-19 the Fred Hartman Bridge, the Pilot Club of Baytown made this 1-20 project one of its highest priorities, and its members have since 1-21 collected more than 15,000 signatures urging an expeditious 1-22 completion of the bridge; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The Pilot Club of Baytown has worked diligently in 1-24 behalf of the citizens of its community, and it is indeed deserving 2-1 of special legislative recognition for its continuing efforts in 2-2 this regard; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby honor the Pilot Club of Baytown for its efforts 2-5 to secure the completion of the Fred Hartman Bridge and commend the 2-6 members of this worthy group for their extraordinary civic service; 2-7 and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the Pilot Club of Baytown as an expression of high 2-10 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
