                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Glenn Mathis Harmon, on December 29,
    1-2  1993, at the age of 66, has brought a great loss to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this distinguished Texas educator; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The son of William Robert and Kate Mathis Harmon, he
    1-5  was born November 18, 1927, in the community of Britton; he
    1-6  received his undergraduate degree from Texas Wesleyan College
    1-7  before going on to earn a master of education degree; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, An Army veteran who served his country during the
    1-9  Korean conflict, Mr. Harmon fulfilled his lifelong ambition to
   1-10  become an educator when he embarked on his distinguished career as
   1-11  a classroom teacher in Hillsboro, Missouri; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, He joined the public school system in Mansfield in
   1-13  1954 as a fifth-grade teacher at Erma Nash Elementary School; this
   1-14  dedicated and hardworking professional soon became principal of the
   1-15  school, where he endeared himself to teachers and students alike
   1-16  for the next 28 years; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Mr. Harmon went on to contribute his wealth of
   1-18  expertise at the district level when he was named director of
   1-19  personnel in 1985 and became responsible for recruiting, hiring,
   1-20  and coordinating teachers throughout the Mansfield Independent
   1-21  School District; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A teacher in the truest sense of the word, he was
   1-23  deeply committed to his students; he encouraged them and helped
   1-24  them to reach their highest potentials even after his retirement by
    2-1  serving as a volunteer at Erma Nash Elementary School, where he
    2-2  worked with children on reading and verbal skills; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, In honor of the many significant contributions he
    2-4  had made to the community as an educator, the district named an
    2-5  elementary school in South Arlington in his honor; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Mr. Harmon was a man of boundless energy and
    2-7  enthusiasm who also reached out to his community as a volunteer at
    2-8  the Mansfield Hospital and as a member of the First United
    2-9  Methodist Church of Mansfield; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, This exceptional gentleman touched the lives of many
   2-11  people during his lifetime and, though his presence will be deeply
   2-12  missed, his memory will endure in the hearts of those who came to
   2-13  know and love him; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-15  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glenn Mathis Harmon
   2-16  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
   2-17  brother, Thomas Vernon Harmon; to his sisters, Ruth Son and Dorothy
   2-18  Quinn; and to his many other friends and relatives; and, be it
   2-19  further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-21  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-22  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-23  Glenn Mathis Harmon.
