No. 190 74R4763 PFG-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On February 25, 1995, the South Dallas Business and 1-2 Professional Women's Club, Inc., will celebrate 40 years of 1-3 outstanding community service with a special Founders' Day 1-4 Observance, and the event promises to be a memorable occasion for 1-5 all concerned; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This exemplary organization was established on 1-7 January 1, 1955, by the late Sarah J. Holbert-Sears, a dedicated 1-8 educator who recognized the need for a business and professional 1-9 women's club to serve the growing African-American community in 1-10 South Dallas; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A local chapter of the National Association of Negro 1-12 Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., the South Dallas 1-13 club has followed the lead of the national organization in its 1-14 efforts to develop economic opportunity, encourage professional 1-15 training, and improve social conditions in its community and has 1-16 been recognized for its consistently excellent programs by the 1-17 singular tribute of induction into the national association's hall 1-18 of fame; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The caring professionals who compose the club's 1-20 membership give generously of their time and talent to participate 1-21 in many worthwhile programs of benefit to the community, including 1-22 the Leontyne Price Vocal Artists Competition, Role Models for 1-23 African-American Male Youth, the Beta Psi Club, and the Youth Club 1-24 of South Dallas, to name but a few; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Club members also share their energies with the 2-2 Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Dallas Chamber of 2-3 Commerce, and the African-American Museum and assist numerous 2-4 worthy groups working for improved social and civic conditions 2-5 locally, nationally, and internationally; and 2-6 WHEREAS, For four decades, the South Dallas Business and 2-7 Professional Women's Club, Inc., has contributed significantly to 2-8 improving the economic and social landscape of South Dallas through 2-9 the vital contributions of the dedicated women comprising its 2-10 membership; in light of its achievements, it is indeed fitting that 2-11 this extraordinary group receive special legislative recognition 2-12 for its continuing efforts in this regard; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby honor the South Dallas Business and Professional 2-15 Women's Club, Inc., and commend its members for their exemplary 2-16 work in behalf of the South Dallas community; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for the South Dallas Business and Professional Women's 2-19 Club, Inc., as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-20 Representatives.
