                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives joins with people
    1-2  around the country in recognizing February 12-18, 1995, as National
    1-3  Vocational-Technical Education Week; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The theme of this special week, "School-to-Work
    1-5  Transition," is especially appropriate for the citizens of the Lone
    1-6  Star State; as Texas stands poised on the brink of a new century,
    1-7  this state's young people face the challenges of finding work in an
    1-8  increasingly competitive global economy; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Vocational and technical education programs have
   1-10  never before been so important to helping our children achieve
   1-11  their professional goals and maintaining the economic strength and
   1-12  diversity of Texas; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, When coupled with solid academic instruction, career
   1-14  and technology classes teach young people the analytical skills and
   1-15  professional expertise needed to become effective participants in
   1-16  the workforce; students are also given the guidance and experience
   1-17  they need to build rewarding careers in the fields of their choice;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Vocational and technical student organizations play
   1-20  a key role in the educational process as well; these groups work
   1-21  closely with educators to improve the quality of instruction,
   1-22  develop student leadership, enhance citizenship responsibilities,
   1-23  and overcome sexual and racial discrimination within the workforce;
   1-24  and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Among the many notable associations that have been
    2-2  established for vocational and technical education students are the
    2-3  FFA, Future Homemakers of America, Future Business Leaders of
    2-4  America, Business Professionals of America, Health Occupations
    2-5  Students of America, and the State Association of Young Farmers of
    2-6  Texas; the Technology Student Association, the Vocational
    2-7  Industrial Clubs of America, and the Distributive Education Club of
    2-8  America are also popular and successful student organizations; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, These programs and organizations prepare young
   2-10  Texans for the future and are essential components of the public
   2-11  education system in this state, and it is indeed fitting that
   2-12  vocational and technical education be given special recognition and
   2-13  support; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-15  Legislature hereby recognize February 12-18, 1995, as National
   2-16  Vocational-Technical Education Week and commend the students,
   2-17  teachers, and administrators who have made vocational and technical
   2-18  education a successful and important part of public education in
   2-19  Texas; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-21  for the state presidents of Texas vocational and technical student
   2-22  organizations as an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of
   2-23  Representatives.
