R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Kingwood High School Mustangs boys'
1-2 cross-country team has again achieved the pinnacle of success,
1-3 winning the 1994 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 5A
1-4 state championship, the second consecutive year it has accomplished
1-5 that remarkable feat; and
1-6 WHEREAS, This most recent victory further enhanced the
1-7 remarkable legacy of Kingwood High School boys' cross-country
1-8 teams, who have won three state titles since 1988; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Brad Hauser, who claimed his second consecutive
1-10 individual title, paced the squad by negotiating the grueling five
1-11 kilometer course in a phenomenal 15 minutes, 18 seconds; three
1-12 other Kingwood runners also placed among the top eight finishers;
1-13 and
1-14 WHEREAS, The 1994 Kingwood team was named best in the nation
1-15 by the Harrier Magazine Coaches' Poll after having achieved
1-16 runner-up status in that prestigious balloting the previous year;
1-17 and
1-18 WHEREAS, The undefeated season and state and national
1-19 championships were a result of expert guidance by Coach Zoe Simpson
1-20 and total dedication by team members Brad Hauser, Brent Hauser,
1-21 Lewis Jones, Tyson Hendricksen, Kevin Ward, Kevin Belteau, and Jeff
1-22 Wood; and
1-23 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men and their coaches
1-24 and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the students
2-1 and faculty at Kingwood High School and their many supporters in
2-2 the community, and their exceptional achievements have rightfully
2-3 earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Zoe Simpson and the Kingwood
2-6 High School Mustangs on their second consecutive UIL Class 5A
2-7 cross-country championship and extend to them best wishes for
2-8 continued success in the future; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-10 for the team members and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared
2-11 for prominent display at Kingwood High School as an expression of
2-12 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
