H.R. No. 212 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Billye and Buddy Angle for the many significant contributions they 1-3 have made to the Knox City community throughout their long and 1-4 rewarding life together; and 1-5 WHEREAS, United in matrimony on September 29, 1940, Mr. and 1-6 Mrs. Angle have enjoyed an active and dynamic partnership, 1-7 enriching not only their own lives but those of everyone around 1-8 them, and, in doing so, they have greatly enhanced the fabric of 1-9 their community; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A World War II veteran, Mr. Angle worked in the 1-11 wholesale and retail gasoline business for a number of years before 1-12 following in his father's footsteps on the family farm, where he 1-13 would continue to work the land for the next 45 years; in testimony 1-14 to their outstanding stewardship, the Angles' farmland is still in 1-15 operation, marking nearly 75 years of continuous production; and 1-16 WHEREAS, In addition to his contributions to the local 1-17 economy as an area farmer, Mr. Angle shared his expertise to the 1-18 benefit of the agricultural community through his noteworthy tenure 1-19 as an officer of the Knox County Farmers Union and during this time 1-20 eloquently expressed the concerns of local farmers during travels 1-21 to the nation's capital; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Elected to serve the citizens of Knox City as a 1-23 member of the city council, he later ran for and won election to 1-24 the office of mayor and admirably addressed a vast array of 2-1 citizens' concerns over the course of the next 12 years; after a 2-2 hiatus, he returned to public life for another three years and 2-3 through his combined terms has distinguished himself as the 2-4 longest-tenured mayor in Knox City's history; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Angle's public service was marked by many 2-6 significant accomplishments; keenly aware of the critical role that 2-7 water plays in the continued prosperity of the region, he was 2-8 involved in the groundbreaking of the Miller Creek Reservoir, and 2-9 his outstanding efforts in this regard have helped to ensure that 2-10 this important resource will remain available for generations to 2-11 come; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Outside the public service arena, he is also well 2-13 known throughout the state for the popular enterprise he 2-14 established and named for his grandsons, Clay's and Scooter's 2-15 Sno-Cone Factory; Mr. Angle's love of all children has been enjoyed 2-16 locally for many years through his repeat performances as Santa 2-17 Claus; and 2-18 WHEREAS, His lovely wife, Billye, is a dedicated 2-19 businesswoman and civic leader in her own right; she began a 2-20 rewarding association with The Knox County Herald in 1965 and 2-21 later, with the support of the entire community, began publishing 2-22 The Knox County News with her husband in 1971; and 2-23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Angle is a charter member of the Knox County 2-24 Hospital Auxiliary and has distinguished herself in the past as a 2-25 hospital auxiliary officer and as a director of the local chamber 2-26 of commerce; and 2-27 WHEREAS, Both of the Angles played an active role in 3-1 introducing West Texas music directly to the Knox City area by 3-2 organizing numerous West Texas Oprys and Grapevine Oprys across the 3-3 county to benefit the West Texas Rehabilitation Center and a number 3-4 of other deserving local organizations; and 3-5 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Angle also are devout members of the 3-6 First Baptist Church, where Mr. Angle serves as a greeter and 3-7 Mrs. Angle is a pianist and clerk; and 3-8 WHEREAS, Throughout their life together, the Angles have 3-9 worked tirelessly for the betterment of their community, and their 3-10 remarkable commitment serves as a source of inspiration to all who 3-11 are privileged to know them; now, therefore, be it 3-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-13 Legislature hereby commend Billye and Buddy Angle for their many 3-14 outstanding contributions to the Knox City community; and, be it 3-15 further 3-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-17 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Angle as an expression of high regard by 3-18 the Texas House of Representatives.
