                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Jack B. Smartt on July 4, 1994, at
    1-2  the age of 63, has brought a great loss to the many friends and
    1-3  relatives of this esteemed Snyder businessman and civic leader; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born July 25, 1930, this exceptional individual was
    1-5  a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University; he also served his country
    1-6  with distinction as a member of the United States Army; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, A highly valued employee at TU Electric, he worked
    1-8  for that fine company in the cities of Crane and Andrews before
    1-9  moving to Snyder in 1984, where he brought his exceptional business
   1-10  acumen and tireless work ethic to his position as manager; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Mr. Smartt devoted much of his time and energy to
   1-12  the betterment of his community, working for positive change as a
   1-13  member and chairman of both the Economic Development Committee and
   1-14  the Board of County Development, and he also served as a member of
   1-15  the Cogdell Hospital Foundation advisory board; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Among the many other worthy organizations that
   1-17  benefited immeasurably from his participation in their efforts were
   1-18  the  Snyder Rotary Club, Snyder Country Club, and Snyder Chamber of
   1-19  Commerce; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, He was deservedly designated as recipient of the
   1-21  1989 Mayor Vestal Award for his   exemplary accomplishments in
   1-22  service to his fellow citizens; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Mr. Smartt demonstrated his deep and abiding faith
   1-24  as an active member of the First United Methodist Church; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, A man of rare integrity and vision, Jack B. Smartt
    2-2  will long be remembered by all who were privileged to know him;
    2-3  although his presence is gone from us now, his unique spirit will
    2-4  live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched;
    2-5  now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby honor the memory of Jack B. Smartt and extend
    2-8  deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Ann
    2-9  Walker Smartt of Snyder; to his daughter and son-in-law, DeeDee and
   2-10  Greg Wallace of Austin; to his son, Andrew Britton Smartt of
   2-11  Austin; to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Britton Smartt of Abilene; to
   2-12  his brother, Jimmy Lee Smartt of Richardson; to his grandchildren,
   2-13  Danny and Nancy Wallace of Austin; to his nieces and nephews; and
   2-14  to the many other friends and relatives of this beloved Texan; and,
   2-15  be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-17  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
   2-18  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jack B.
   2-19  Smartt.
