R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Walter Mims is an esteemed resident of Lancaster
1-2 whose exemplary public service to his fellow citizens has won him
1-3 the respect and admiration of all who know him; and
1-4 WHEREAS, At 97 years of age, this remarkable gentleman has
1-5 completed a task that would prove daunting to a person several
1-6 decades younger than him, having recently cleared a brushy
1-7 overgrown area of land measuring 238 yards long by seven yards
1-8 wide; and
1-9 WHEREAS, A happily married man for the past 43 years,
1-10 Mr. Mims became concerned for his wife's safety when brush and high
1-11 weeds in a residential area west of his home rendered her unable to
1-12 have an unobstructed view of oncoming traffic when trying to make a
1-13 left turn onto Pleasant Run Road; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Determined to remedy this potentially dangerous
1-15 situation, he took matters into his own hands and worked diligently
1-16 over the course of the next three months to clear the land,
1-17 equipped with only an ax, a hand saw, and a hoe; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Through his commitment to the welfare of others,
1-19 Walter Mims has made a significant contribution to the safety of
1-20 his fellow citizens, and it is fitting that he be honored for his
1-21 outstanding achievement; now, therefore, be it
1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
1-23 Legislature hereby commend Walter Mims for his valuable service to
1-24 the betterment of his community and extend to him sincere best
2-1 wishes for continued success and happiness in the coming year; and,
2-2 be it further
2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-4 prepared for Mr. Mims as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-5 House of Representatives.
