R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Since 1957, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has
1-2 drawn visitors from around the state and nation, and on February
1-3 26, 1995, those attending this spectacular exhibition will be
1-4 treated to Go Tejano Day, a daylong celebration of our state's
1-5 proud Hispanic heritage; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Houston Chronicle and Miller Lite,
1-7 Go Tejano Day will be filled with melodic songs and colorful
1-8 displays as the finest Tejano entertainers in the state are brought
1-9 together under the roof of the Astrodome for this truly special
1-10 occasion; last year, crowds turned out in full force to attend the
1-11 festivities of Go Tejano Day, making it the most popular single
1-12 event at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Thanks to the generous support of Pepsi and Fiesta
1-14 Stores, Go Tejano Day will also feature the final round of the
1-15 fourth annual Texas State Mariachi Contest, one of the premier
1-16 competitions of its kind in the world; and
1-17 WHEREAS, These exciting festivities will not only delight
1-18 audiences but also will benefit deserving Hispanic students as
1-19 well; last year, the Go Tejano Day committee presented $175,000 in
1-20 college scholarships to Hispanic students throughout the state, and
1-21 this year's fund-raising events promise to be even more successful;
1-22 and
1-23 WHEREAS, Go Tejano Day is an important cultural event in our
1-24 state that has provided educational opportunities to countless
2-1 young Texans, and it is indeed appropriate that it be given special
2-2 legislative recognition and support; now, therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-4 Legislature hereby commend the sponsors and organizers of Go Tejano
2-5 Day at the 1995 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for their many
2-6 outstanding contributions to the State of Texas; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-8 prepared for the sponsors and organizers of Go Tejano Day as an
2-9 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
