                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  John Paul Drake, who recently achieved special distinction by
    1-3  attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Acquired by less than two percent of all young men
    1-5  in the scouting movement, this coveted silver badge represents the
    1-6  highest honor to which a scout can aspire; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Among John Drake's most outstanding achievements in
    1-8  the scouting movement has been the compassion he has shown toward
    1-9  the victims of the Lancaster tornado; for his Eagle Scout project,
   1-10  Mr. Drake made it his goal to increase public awareness of the
   1-11  terrible toll this natural disaster has taken on the lives of
   1-12  affected families, and he spent a great deal of time and energy
   1-13  passing out flyers and collecting donations of food for the victims
   1-14  from throughout the greater community; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, In his quest to become an Eagle Scout, Mr. Drake had
   1-16  already attained the Order of the Arrow and the Golden Acorn
   1-17  Leadership award and had brought honor to his troop in a variety of
   1-18  challenging capacities, including service as a senior patrol
   1-19  leader, participation in the National Jamboree, and involvement in
   1-20  a 12-day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Mr. Drake also has earned a number of prestigious
   1-22  scouting awards that have been bestowed on him for his prowess in
   1-23  the water as a swimmer, lifeguard, and sailor, such as the 50 Mile
   1-24  Award, the Boy Scouts of America Life Guard award, first and second
    2-1  place sailing awards, and the Skipper First Class award; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, The son of Gary and Mary Jo Drake, Eagle Scout Drake
    2-3  is currently in his senior year at Lake Highlands High School,
    2-4  where he has distinguished himself as a letterman on the swim team
    2-5  for two years and as a member of the school's French Club; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, This exceptional young man has demonstrated
    2-7  impressive intelligence, determination, and strength of character
    2-8  in achieving this high honor and he is indeed worthy of special
    2-9  praise and recognition for his outstanding efforts in this regard;
   2-10  now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby congratulate John Paul Drake on attaining the
   2-13  rank of Eagle Scout and extend best wishes to him for continued
   2-14  success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Mr. Drake as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-17  House of Representatives.
