R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 Jeffrey Wilson Deats, who recently achieved special distinction by
1-3 attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Acquired by less than two percent of all young men
1-5 in the scouting movement, this coveted silver badge represents the
1-6 highest honor to which a scout can aspire; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Among Jeffrey Deats's most outstanding achievements
1-8 in the scouting movement has been his support of the EXCAP Center
1-9 sponsored by the Exchange Clubs of Dallas; for his Eagle Scout
1-10 project, Mr. Deats made it his goal to increase public awareness of
1-11 this vital agency, which works to prevent child abuse in the
1-12 community; and
1-13 WHEREAS, During his involvement with the project, Eagle Scout
1-14 Deats explained the work of the center to many area citizens,
1-15 passed out scores of fliers providing important child abuse
1-16 prevention information, and collected donations from throughout the
1-17 greater community; as a result of his tireless efforts, more than
1-18 2,500 articles of food, toys, clothing, and personal hygiene
1-19 products were collected for the center; and
1-20 WHEREAS, In his quest to become an Eagle Scout, Mr. Deats had
1-21 already attained the Order of the Arrow and the Golden Acorn
1-22 Leadership award and had brought honor to his troop in a variety of
1-23 challenging capacities, including service as a den chief and
1-24 assistant senior patrol leader, five years of participation at Camp
2-1 Constantin, and involvement in a 12-day trek at Philmont Scout
2-2 Ranch; and
2-3 WHEREAS, The son of Gerald and Ida Deats, Eagle Scout Deats
2-4 is currently in his senior year at Lake Highlands High School,
2-5 where he has distinguished himself as a member of the Junior
2-6 Exchange Club, the A Capella Select Choir, and S.A.D.D.; gifted in
2-7 both academics and athletics, he will graduate this spring with
2-8 honors on the advanced diploma plan and is a three-year varsity
2-9 letterman and captain of the 1995 Region III championship wrestling
2-10 team; and
2-11 WHEREAS, This exceptional young man has demonstrated
2-12 impressive intelligence, determination, and strength of character
2-13 in achieving this high honor and he is indeed worthy of special
2-14 praise and recognition for his outstanding efforts in this regard;
2-15 now, therefore, be it
2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-17 Legislature hereby congratulate Jeffrey Wilson Deats on attaining
2-18 the rank of Eagle Scout and extend best wishes to him for continued
2-19 success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21 prepared for Mr. Deats as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-22 House of Representatives.
