                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, While only a handful of teams are able to realize
    1-2  the dream of attaining a state championship in their given sport,
    1-3  fewer still can duplicate such a phenomenal feat; among that elite
    1-4  group are the Goldthwaite High School Eagles, who in 1994 earned
    1-5  their second consecutive title as University Interscholastic League
    1-6  (UIL) Class 2A football champions; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Facing arch-rival Schulenberg High School at
    1-8  Memorial Stadium in Austin with the state title on the line, the
    1-9  Eagles performed like true champions, overcoming the Shorthorns
   1-10  20-16 to claim the coveted crown and finish the 1994 campaign
   1-11  undefeated; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The season's remarkable achievements were a result
   1-13  of total dedication to the team concept by members Quincy Ables,
   1-14  Keith Cockrum, Heath Nuckolls, Clint Patrick, Jerimie Williams,
   1-15  Carlos Reyes, Brandon Manuel, Chris Conradt, Terry Abraham, Ernesto
   1-16  Barrera, Luis Barrera, Cheyenne Horton, Shane Carr, Adam Young,
   1-17  Kent Shillings, Don Francis, Travis King, Jason Higginbotham, Cody
   1-18  Odom, Ryan Seward, Nathan Robello, Billy Thompson, Damon Hunt,
   1-19  Robert Head, Paul Wiedebusch, Roger Parker, Carlos Martinez, Jaime
   1-20  Gonzales, and J.  T. Auldridge; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Outstanding leadership and guidance were provided by
   1-22  head coach Gary Proffitt, and he was ably supported by the tireless
   1-23  efforts of assistant coaches Tim Spradley, Kevin Burns, Mike
   1-24  Cocanougher, and David Knauth; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Other invaluable off-the-field support was given by
    2-2  managers Julian Hernandez, Steven Miles, Josh Stewart, and Greg
    2-3  Proffitt, and by statisticians Becky Raesz and Tassie Hammond; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, This outstanding group of young men along with their
    2-5  coaches and staff has been a tremendous source of pride for the
    2-6  students and faculty at Goldthwaite High School and their many
    2-7  supporters in the community, and their exceptional accomplishments
    2-8  are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition; now,
    2-9  therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby congratulate the Goldthwaite High School
   2-12  football team on its second consecutive UIL Class 2A state football
   2-13  championship and designate February 23, 1995, as Goldthwaite Day;
   2-14  and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-16  for the team members and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared
   2-17  for prominent display at Goldthwaite High School as an expression
   2-18  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
