R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, February 23, 1995, marks a significant event in the
1-2 history of an internationally recognized service organization, for
1-3 on this day 1.2 million Rotarians from around the world will
1-4 observe the organization's 90th anniversary; and
1-5 WHEREAS, For nearly a century, Rotary International has made
1-6 a difference in countless lives the world over and can count among
1-7 its membership community leaders in business and other professions
1-8 in 150 countries and 35 geographic regions; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Within the boundaries of the Lone Star State, Texas
1-10 Rotary Clubs support the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International
1-11 and, through this rewarding affiliation, have participated in a
1-12 host of international service projects, including the PolioPlus
1-13 Program, which was developed to eradicate polio worldwide; state
1-14 clubs also have broadened the horizons of many deserving young
1-15 Texans through their sponsorship of undergraduate and graduate
1-16 studies abroad; and
1-17 WHEREAS, On the home front, Texas Rotarians have enriched our
1-18 communities by observing the organization's motto, "Service Above
1-19 Self," supporting a variety of commendable projects that have had a
1-20 positive impact on the lives of those in need; and
1-21 WHEREAS, In recognition of the organization's 90th
1-22 anniversary this year, Texas Rotary Clubs have set up window
1-23 exhibits across the state featuring photos and offering detailed
1-24 information about the clubs' local and international service
2-1 projects, and this occasion provides an opportune time to honor
2-2 this exceptional group for the valuable contributions it has made
2-3 to the citizens of Texas; now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate Texas Rotary Clubs on the 90th
2-6 anniversary of Rotary International and commend the group's
2-7 dedicated members for their exceptional community service; and, be
2-8 it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That February 23, 1995, be designated Rotary Day in
2-10 Texas and all Texans be encouraged to take a moment on this day to
2-11 expand their awareness of the worthy contributions made by Texas
2-12 Rotary Clubs to the continued vitality of this state.
