H.R. No. 264 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Karen Tedder has labored tirelessly to create a 1-2 broader avenue of athletic opportunity for the children of Texas by 1-3 encouraging a higher level of participation in the sport of tennis; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, A member of the U.S. Tennis Association, this San 1-6 Antonio resident has involved thousands of children, many from 1-7 underprivileged backgrounds, in this exhilarating and rewarding 1-8 sport; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Ms. Tedder is determined that no child who wants to 1-10 take to the court will be prevented from doing so by lack of 1-11 equipment; her garage is filled with tennis rackets and balls, 1-12 which she generously makes available to schools that are unable to 1-13 provide the basic means of play for their students; and 1-14 WHEREAS, To create a better understanding among local 1-15 teachers as to how tennis can be made accessible and exciting to 1-16 their students, this dedicated individual conducts seminars in the 1-17 sport she has come to love; she also holds clinics for interested 1-18 students that emphasize the joy of taking up the racket; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A talented athlete in her own right, Ms. Tedder 1-20 completed a leap of eight feet, four inches at the Texas Senior 1-21 Games to qualify for the national finals in the long jump, and she 1-22 and her husband, Don, are a highly competitive tennis doubles team; 1-23 and 1-24 WHEREAS, Karen Tedder has given freely of her time and 2-1 talents to enable children to broaden their athletic horizons 2-2 through the sport of tennis, and her many notable accomplishments 2-3 in this regard are indeed worthy of special legislative 2-4 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby commend Karen Tedder for her outstanding efforts 2-7 to promote tennis as an athletic outlet for children; and, be it 2-8 further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Karen Tedder as an expression of high regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
