                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  John Nelson for his achievement in being named a finalist in the
    1-3  Environmental Stamp Design Contest sponsored by the U.S. Postal
    1-4  Service and McDonald's Restaurants; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A fifth-grade student at Encino Park Elementary
    1-6  School in San Antonio, John toiled for some seven hours on his
    1-7  compelling design of a red-bellied slider turtle lying on a log
    1-8  afloat in light-blue water; a message printed on the green grass in
    1-9  the background of the picture reads, "KEEP OUR WORLD WONDERFUL,"
   1-10  while the message in the foreground of the picture beneath the
   1-11  turtle reads, "Keep It Clean"; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, In competition with 150,000 entries submitted
   1-13  nationwide, John's design was one of only 102 entries that were
   1-14  selected to compete for the chance to be featured among the
   1-15  200,000,000 first-class stamps with environmental themes to be
   1-16  printed beginning in April 1995; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A young man who will surely go far in this world,
   1-18  John Nelson is a source of great pride to his parents, Bill and
   1-19  Barbara Nelson, and the members of his community, and it is fitting
   1-20  that he be recognized for his remarkable achievement, which earned
   1-21  him a $100 U.S. savings bond as well as a framed reproduction of
   1-22  his outstanding design; now, therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-24  Legislature hereby congratulate John Nelson on his selection as a
    2-1  national finalist in the Environmental Stamp Design Contest and
    2-2  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued good fortune in the
    2-3  years to come; and, be it further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-5  prepared for John Nelson and his parents as an expression of high
    2-6  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
