R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Denton Liberty Christian High School Warriors
1-2 football team has achieved the pinnacle of success by winning the
1-3 1994 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS)
1-4 Class 2A state championship; and
1-5 WHEREAS, The Warriors started the 1994 campaign by winning
1-6 only two of their first five contests but regrouped to go
1-7 undefeated through the remainder of the regular season, taking the
1-8 district title and earning a spot in the state playoffs; and
1-9 WHEREAS, After winning dramatically in its first playoff
1-10 contest against Tyler T. K. Gorman, Denton Liberty Christian took
1-11 the field against 1993 Class 2A state champion and TAPPS powerhouse
1-12 Halletsville Sacred Heart in a semifinal matchup and again won in
1-13 heart-stopping fashion, coming from behind in the game's waning
1-14 moments to triumph 13-12; and
1-15 WHEREAS, With the ultimate prize at stake, Denton Liberty
1-16 Christian faced its second defending state champion in as many
1-17 weeks, taking on the 1993 Class 1A titleholder, Dallas Tyler Street
1-18 Christian Academy, but the Warriors refused to be denied,
1-19 dominating their opponent 15-0 to claim the coveted state crown;
1-20 and
1-21 WHEREAS, Head coach Mark Bowles, who has helmed the Warriors
1-22 football program since its inception, honed his players' skills and
1-23 instilled in them the unshakable belief that they could capture the
1-24 title that previously had eluded their grasp; and
2-1 WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men and their coaches
2-2 and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the students
2-3 and faculty at Denton Liberty Christian High School and their many
2-4 supporters in the community, and their exceptional accomplishments
2-5 have rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now,
2-6 therefore, be it
2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate the Denton Liberty Christian High
2-9 School football team on winning the 1994 TAPPS Class 2A state
2-10 championship and extend to all of the players and coaches best
2-11 wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further
2-12 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-13 for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be
2-14 prepared for prominent display at Denton Liberty Christian High
2-15 School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-16 Representatives.
