By Wilson H.R. No. 281 74R6814 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 John L. Nau III for the many significant public service 1-3 contributions he has made to his community and for his most recent 1-4 achievement as the newly elected chairman of the Texas Historical 1-5 Commission; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Nau was graduated from the University of 1-7 Virginia in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in history and continues 1-8 to serve his alma mater as president of the Houston chapter of the 1-9 alumni association; and 1-10 WHEREAS, An esteemed member of the Houston metropolitan 1-11 business community, he embarked on his professional career as a 1-12 marketing trainee with Coca-Cola USA in 1969; well regarded for his 1-13 hard work and professionalism, he received a series of promotions 1-14 to become senior vice president of marketing and sales at the St. 1-15 Louis office; and 1-16 WHEREAS, He began a deeply fulfilling association with Silver 1-17 Eagle Distributors in 1983 as president and chief operating officer 1-18 of the company's office in Florida; the enterprise merged with 1-19 Southwest Distributing Company in 1990 to become Silver Eagle 1-20 Distributors, Inc., and for the past five years Mr. Nau has capably 1-21 served as president and chief executive officer of the company, 1-22 which distributes Anheuser-Busch beer products throughout Harris, 1-23 Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties; and 1-24 WHEREAS, He has shared his business acumen and astute 2-1 managerial skills with his colleagues through numerous seminars on 2-2 sales, marketing, and budget analysis, and he was recently invited 2-3 to participate in a prestigious financial management program at 2-4 Harvard University; he further established himself as a leader in 2-5 the Houston business community by serving as president of the 2-6 Harris County Beer Wholesalers Association; and 2-7 WHEREAS, A dedicated and public-spirited man, Mr. Nau has 2-8 continued to work for the betterment of his community through his 2-9 outstanding civic involvement; deeply committed to historic 2-10 preservation, he has contributed his considerable insight as a 2-11 valued member of the Harris County Historical Commission and as a 2-12 charter member of the Monticello Cabinet in Virginia; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Widely regarded throughout the preservation field 2-14 for his expertise, hard work, and dedication, he was appointed to a 2-15 six-year term on the Texas Historical Commission by Governor Ann 2-16 Richards in 1993, and in testament to the esteem in which he is 2-17 held by his peers, he was recently elected as the commission's 2-18 chairman; and 2-19 WHEREAS, He has continued to serve the Houston community 2-20 through his active involvement with several worthy organizations, 2-21 including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Variety Club of 2-22 Houston, the Greater Houston United Service Organization, and the 2-23 Alley Theater, and he worked to improve the quality of education in 2-24 the community as a former board member of the John Cooper School; 2-25 and 2-26 WHEREAS, A man of boundless energies and enthusiasm, Mr. Nau 2-27 has worked tirelessly for the betterment of his state and 3-1 community, and he is indeed worthy of special praise and 3-2 recognition on the occasion of his most recent honor; now, 3-3 therefore, be it 3-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-5 Legislature hereby commend John L. Nau III for his outstanding 3-6 commitment to public service and congratulate him on his recent 3-7 election as chairman of the Texas Historical Commission; and, be it 3-8 further 3-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-10 prepared for Mr. Nau as an expression of high regard by the Texas 3-11 House of Representatives.
