                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The cyclical nature of our state's oil and gas
    1-2  economy has combined with pressing environmental concerns to bring
    1-3  energy conservation to the forefront of issues facing Texans today;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Public education efforts such as the Texas Energy
    1-6  Education Development Project (TEED) are vital to the future wise
    1-7  use of our finite energy resources and to the maintenance of a
    1-8  clean and safe environment in our state and in our nation; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Founded under the auspices of the National Energy
   1-10  Education Development Project, TEED is a nonprofit corporation that
   1-11  was formed to help promote energy education in Texas schools
   1-12  through an innovative instructional program that has been offered
   1-13  at the secondary school level since 1981; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, This outstanding program takes place outside the
   1-15  classroom and inspires students to learn about the various forms of
   1-16  energy and its proper management through a series of creative and
   1-17  thought-provoking activities; students design informational posters
   1-18  and workbooks, hold workshops, and attend an annual summer
   1-19  conference to gain knowledge about energy issues that they can then
   1-20  share with their fellow students and the community; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Students participating in TEED's Community Home
   1-22  Weatherization Project work with local business people and sponsors
   1-23  to learn valuable hands-on weatherizing skills and apply what they
   1-24  have learned to increasing the energy efficiency of homes belonging
    2-1  to the needy citizens of their community; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, The dedicated individuals who have worked so
    2-3  diligently to make the TEED Project a success have greatly
    2-4  benefitted our state by preparing Texas' students for their
    2-5  stewardship of this fundamental resource as responsible citizens of
    2-6  tomorrow; in light of their program's many significant
    2-7  contributions, they indeed merit special legislative praise and
    2-8  recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-10  Legislature hereby designate March 17, 1995, as Energy/Environment
   2-11  Education Day in Texas and join with our fellow citizens in
   2-12  commending the many fine volunteers and participants involved in
   2-13  the Texas Energy Education Development Project; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for the Texas Energy Education Development Project as an
   2-16  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
