                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Ed Stauffer for the many significant contributions he has made to
    1-3  the Fort Worth community as founder and director of the Fort Worth
    1-4  Fire Department's critical incident stress management team; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Stauffer developed this noteworthy program in
    1-6  1981 when he was serving as the department's chaplain; one of the
    1-7  first programs of its kind in the nation, it helps firefighters
    1-8  provide support to one another after facing stressful and
    1-9  life-threatening situations that are all too common in their work;
   1-10  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Under the capable leadership of Mr. Stauffer and his
   1-12  successor, Cameron Brown, members of the stress management team
   1-13  have done an  exceptional job of addressing the emotional health
   1-14  needs of their colleagues, and the program has become a model for
   1-15  other fire departments across the nation; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Although Mr. Stauffer retired from his post with the
   1-17  department in 1991 after 32 years of distinguished service, he
   1-18  continues to play an active role in his field through his work in
   1-19  emergency projects, including disaster relief efforts in South
   1-20  Florida in the wake of Hurricane Andrew; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Widely regarded throughout his chosen profession for
   1-22  his expertise, professionalism, and dedication, he currently is the
   1-23  executive director of the Federation of Fire Chaplains
   1-24  International and conducts highly informative training sessions on
    2-1  crisis management across the country; and
    2-2        WHEREAS,  Throughout his remarkable career, Mr. Stauffer has
    2-3  worked for the benefit of his colleagues in the fire-fighting
    2-4  community, and his dedicated efforts are truly worthy of special
    2-5  praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby commend Ed Stauffer for his outstanding service
    2-8  to the Fort Worth Fire Department and commend him for his
    2-9  groundbreaking work on critical incident stress management; and, be
   2-10  it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for Mr. Stauffer as an expression of high regard by the
   2-13  Texas House of Representatives.
