H.R. No. 293 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes pride in 1-2 honoring the ladies of the Magic Circle Republican Women's Club on 1-3 the occasion of their visit to Austin for their Legislative Day on 1-4 March 7, 1995; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Established in 1979, this outstanding organization 1-6 of more than 500 members, including such notable and revered ladies 1-7 as former first lady Barbara Bush, continues to succeed in 1-8 educating and motivating women to participate effectively in the 1-9 political process, thereby fostering a more informed electorate; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, The ladies of Magic Circle were eager to join with 1-12 other organizations in welcoming delegates to the Republican 1-13 National Convention in August 1992 and provided support in many 1-14 capacities, including by hosting a gathering for the Arizona 1-15 delegation as well as by serving individually as ambassadors to 1-16 various state delegations and generally promoting Houston as a 1-17 wonderful place to visit and conduct business; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The patriotic and civic-minded members of this 1-19 organization value the precious rights that all Americans share and 1-20 wish to convey their appreciation by encouraging all citizens to 1-21 register to vote and become an active part of the political 1-22 process; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The ladies of Magic Circle have actively encouraged 1-24 and supported members to run for state and local elected office; 2-1 and 2-2 WHEREAS, These public-spirited members actively campaigned 2-3 for Beverly Woolley, who served as 1986 president of Magic Circle, 2-4 was elected state representative from District 136, and now 2-5 represents her constituents with distinction, and they campaigned 2-6 for numerous other Magic Circle members who were elected to 2-7 judicial positions in state and county courts on November 8, 1994; 2-8 and 2-9 WHEREAS, These outstanding ladies have been recognized for 2-10 their qualities of leadership and were appointed to key positions 2-11 in campaigns of Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Governor George W. 2-12 Bush, and other state and county elected officials; and 2-13 WHEREAS, These compassionate ladies realize that literacy is 2-14 the key to unlocking potential for all Americans and they are 2-15 collecting new and used books in good condition to be donated to a 2-16 literacy project selected by Mrs. Barbara Bush; and 2-17 WHEREAS, This fine organization's members give generously of 2-18 their time and talent through thousands of volunteer hours annually 2-19 to support conservative candidates and causes, and it is indeed 2-20 fitting that these extraordinary women receive special legislative 2-21 recognition for their continuing efforts in this regard; now, 2-22 therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-24 Legislature hereby recognize the exceptional contributions of the 2-25 Magic Circle Republican Women's Club and commend its members for 2-26 their fine work in behalf of the citizens of Houston and the State 2-27 of Texas; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for the Magic Circle Republican Women's Club as an 3-3 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
